The rear main seal is a good one to change, I would change the tranny seals where the axles go in. All of my front axles needed new cv boots so why not change them while they are out. Took my mechnic about 5 minutes to change one boot since I already had it out. Better to change what you can now while the stuff is out.

ok so these are the recommended replacements.

cv boot. how many are there? 2 or 4?

    rear main seal

    and tranny seal.

they r saying that they are not opening up the tranny case to replace the tranny seals. they r only replacing the rear main seal. they r saying the location of the tranny seals r in the tranny itself. I don't know if that is the case pr weather they r opening up the tranny but I thought since they r dropping the tranny that this replacement would make sense. does anyone know if this is correct , what they r saying to me?

The rear main seal is the one between the engine and the tranny right? That one should get replaced automatically when you replace the clutch right?

ok i got my clutch replaced with the exedy flywheel and clutch stage 1.

    my feelings about it.....WOW!!!!!!

either my oem stock clutch from 91 really sucks or it was really broken. my initial drive was amazing. i dont know if its cause it grips way better or the lighter flywheel really released all the potential power but it launches way better and once in gear it climbs the rpm meter faster. the car only has a very short ram and no other mods.

the shop that installed it for 170.00 with my own brought in parts, did their test run after installing it, said that it is a very strong civic. i noticed it wasnt this strong before the clutch and flywheel. some 96 or 97 civic ex coupe tried to race me tonight as i was cruising home. i have never been able to keep up with anyone civic before. even the DX models would beat me and they were stock. well this one had intake (as i can hear it) and definitly exhaust ( i can see it). well he took on me and i did the same but this time i walked away from him. i was stuned  i guess his girlfreind was kinda shocked cause my civic is totally stock looking too.

final thoughts, get the exedy clutch. it fits like a glove.
get the lighter flywheel, it drives fine as a daily. it doesnt seem to have any issues with starting off or anything. i guess the wieght is really balanced.

Good to hear and kill stories are always great especially when a wagon is involved.

oh my next mod is tomarrow. im installing a greddy turbo kit with fmic. i wonder if i can handle it. also i dont know if my car will still handle well cause there is a small issue with it....

the weird thing is that after they finished installing the clutch the car seems to be swirvey. i guess that would be the best way to describe it. it still drives straight but its like it has this tendency to lose control now when i move the wheel quickly on medium speed, like 40mph or so. if i was to turn the steering wheel a bit to the right or left the whole car will lean and keep going in that directions. before that the car would try to return to center again. obviously it has something to do with the reinstall of the bottom part os the car.

i know they had to take off much of the control arms to some sort of support bar that links to the front part of the car. so i wonder do i need another wheel alignment? but my thought is that the car runs very straight on the freeway. another thing i did notice is that the front seems a bit higher. i dont know if its just me or maybe they didnt reinstall the parts correctly down there.

u shouldnt need an alighment but if its that bad then u should talk to the shop about your problem.
