Jeebuz: You totally made my day with that comment. Thank you so much. There are so many dope wagons on here, and being so new to this I am stoked that anyone at all is digging what I do. Truly appreciate that.

    realtimefun: Thanks man!

Wagonigabko2011: It was great to meet you out at the picking yard. Pretty cool to meet two wagon guys in one day. I'm super stoked to get you pumped to get to working on your wagon, I really hope that you can make it out to a meet. They're a lot of fun, and the more the merrier! Looking forward to seeing some pics of what you do, get that build thread going homie!

By the way, here is a picture of the other guys wagon that I met out at the other yard.

Let me know if that cream wagon has any good parts! I also have a complete y8 manifold, If you buy some cream parts I can drive up and we work out a deal?

Awesome your wagon, you did it well. I'm wondering about your window louver, it's a really nice idea. Did you buy this or handmade?
  • knottyyknottyy Wagonist
Thanks guys. AlexB, sorry man maybe I'm just tired but what do you mean by window louver? Je ne sais pas ce que tu veux dire.

Damn, I been away for a bit. Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been getting my butt kicked by work and at the same time trying to enjoy this sweet summer. I have been doing small things to the wagon, but haven't been able to document like normal as I had to send my camera in to Canon for repairs. Finally got it back and managed to snap off a couple shots of some thing. So let's get right into it shall we..

My rear drums were always rusted to shit since I bought my wagon and I have always meant to spray them black. Finally got around to doing that and it looks much better now.

These were the nasty mofos before:

    Sprayed:

Done (they don't look as wet now)

I also bought some new toys for the wagon. Passport Escort X50 Radar Detector, Nardi Classic Wood Grain Wheel and a Boss adapter:

    Boss Hub:

19mm built in to my spider wrench worked to get the steering wheel off:

    OEM wheel off:

Boss hub is all retarded though. Looks like shit imo. Cover doesn't even cover the whole hub......wtf? Probably gonna return it and go for a NRG short hub/quick release set up like beastmode. And yeah, I know the horn button is wack for now. I'll get to that in time:

I have done a couple other things but I'll post those up later as I'm tired and want to go eat a BLT and drink some beer. I am still gathering parts for my MPFI conversion which I hope to do in the nearer than later future.

OH, I forgot to mention and I'm hoping someone can help me with this. Lately my wagon has been reluctant to start. When I turn the key, it just cranks and cranks, like it's not getting gas or something. But it always eventually starts, usually after no more than 5 seconds of cranking. But it never used to do this, it always started immediately. Any clues to why it may be doing this? I was thinking of changing out my fuel filter possibly? I am sort of expecting to go to start my car one day, and it will just keep on cranking but not start. That seems like the direction I'm heading in lately.

Yep sorry knottyy, i realized later that my translation was really bad, in fact i was asking about your rear venetian blinds. I never saw this on a wagon and it's a really cool idea i Think. I also saw later that you explain everything about it.....Could you make some pictures about how it is fixed?

I had a problem similar to this, it could possibly be your main relay or your ignition module in the distributor. You wouldn't be getting spark from the distributor to the plugs if it is the ignition module, you wouldn't be getting fuel if it was the main relay. Each part is around $60.
  • I'm feeling the look of that Nardi wood grain steering wheel. I don't think the hub looks too bad, but I agree that the short NRG short hub might look better. You pay very close attention to detail on your build, so I think that's why it bothers you more then others.
  • knottyyknottyy Wagonist
Thanks for that info black_89gt I'll def look into that. And yeah, I get a little picky at times about my wagon. I guess being a photographer/editor has made me really pay attention to the small things.

Got some more pics of some of the other small things I've done recently. Added a C-Pillar bar which makes a nice place to hang my smells from, and completes my mobile dog jail.

I also added a pet to my wagon. I still need to name him.. He's been enjoying the ride so far perched up on his new nest.

I noticed that my civicwagon.com sticker is starting to do this pretty cool, almost wrinkle type thingy. Probably hard to see in this pic, but in real life it looks cool....like snake skin or something.

What kind of driving are you doing immediately before the thing where it won't start? My wagon does this thing where if I only drive a short distance, like around the yard or out of the carport, and then shut it off the next time I try to start it's hard to start. Cranks and cranks and cranks but it's like it's not getting fuel. I think it actually too much fuel - having built fuel pressure then only driving a short distance and not burning that fuel. Sort of like "flooding" a carburated motor... but I don't think you can actually "flood" a fuel injected motor. The mechanics in my life say just to crank it til it starts. And don't only move the car short distances. Now if I need to move to a different spot in the yard I drive up the road and back then park in the new spot.

It sounds similar to what you described but YMMV.

I have the same starting problem after driving a short distance, don't know what it is yet.
  • wago_90wago_90 Wagonist
I had the same problem for awhile. first with starting then it turned to cutting out while driving.
had to change the main relay that worked for a minute then i had to change the ignitor switch. wagon ran fine for a week then my battery light would come on and on hot days cut off while driving again finally i bought a new alternator and i haven't had a problem in months

It doesn't seem to matter if I have driven the car or not. It is quite consistent in not wanting to start lately, no matter the time driven before hand or even if I'm coming to it from sitting overnight. One thing I have noticed though is that I'll let it crank for a few seconds then stop. Then start again, then stop. Sometimes it'll start on the second try, but most times it'll start almost immediately on the third crank. It's like the first two just give no gas, but on the third try something happens and it fires right up. Yesterday once I started it, it kinda chocked a little at first when I pushed on the gas which it has never ever done before. Made me almost wonder if there is a problem with it getting fuel somehow. It only did that for a second, then ran normal.

My money is on main fuel relay, it is a very common problem. 4 out of 4 of my fuel injected Hondas have had the same issue.

The C pillar bar bar looks so good dude, it is on my list of wants for my EF Wagon.
  • Like I said, I have experienced all of the problems listed. I have no problems after changing the main relay and ignition switch. It could be one or the other or a combination of the two that makes it happen more often.

I agree with the main relay. Same thing happened to mine when i first bought her...

Dang...Some real love happn'n here. Glad to see it, Nice Wagon, great photos.I'll be checking back...

Thanks for the info guys, I'm leaving for vacation today but when I get home in a couple weeks I'll get into checking out the main relay. She's continued to start for me so that's good, but she's still having those issues so I know it'll need handled sooner than later before I go and get myself stranded somewhere. Also need to change out my front drivers side axel while I'm at it. I pulled my drivers side front fender in a while back somehow, not really sure just noticed one day. Tried to fix it like I did the other side, with the heat gun and text books but I ended up just fucking it up worse. Wasn't a good day for me, and it still really bothers me every time I look at it .... which is every damn day. Need to find new blue fenders, although beastmode has a pair of stripped ones at very least if I end up painting white like I'd like to.

    Messed up fender

The other day I went with my girlfriend to get her car detailed at a spot here in town and it happened to share a lot with an exotic car sales warehouse. Couldn't resist a shot next the the Murcielago. The place is called Cats Exotics, and it was a real treat to look at millions of dollars of supercars and all their gizmos and gadgets.

Hi knotty what an inspiration tread you have presented on your 89 build. I have a 1991 2wd wagon in the shop sense June letting my trusted repair person bring her back to life and make her roadworthy. I love the details, photo's do's and warnings. A grrreat tread i'm going to follow some of your improvements and apply them to my 91 also. P.S. MINE IS AN AUTOMATIC VISE STICK AND WHERE DO YOU PLACE A BOTTLE OF WATER TO DRINK ON THE ROAD? I HAVE NO CONSOLE CUP HOLDERS! Thank you for sharing and have a blessed every day. Alvin the chipmunk

Dang dude. What happened to the fender? Looks like you're going to need more camber. Have fun on vacation. See ya in a few weeks.

Alvin, check out the interior forum especially the "stickys" & search function. There are several basic ways to solve the problem and an infinite number of variations.
  • I'm a New booty too. Show some love
  • Alvin, I have a single cup holder that I keep in my glove box. It's a cheap little one that just hangs from my door compartment thingy. I need to come up with a better solution. Look up the Walmart cup holder mod, a l
  • your girls old school is runnin now?
  • Yup, finally!! Man we were having some bad luck with that thing. First the alternator went out. Then the carburetor needed rebuilt. Needed a new front axel, which ended up popping out making us think the tranny had gone south. After that we found the old alternator that was put on by another mechanic wasn't the correct one, so that needed changed out again. I'm not even gonna tell you how much she ended up paying for all this, it'd make you sad. But it seems to be running good now, and at only 70k miles hopefully she'll get some good use out of it. She wants to drop it a little bit and throw some stylish old school shoes on with white wall tires for a nice clean, classic look. I'll take good photos of it when I get home from vacation, but for now here's a couple cell phone shots for fun.

Caiti and I on the road. The interior in this Accord is just short of showroom quality, no joke. It's amazing!
