Rear (3rd) driveshaft is shot 4WD wagon - NEED INFO!
farfetched
Wagonist
Hi all.
New to this forum but have had my 4WD for a while.
I've been having some vibrations between 45-55 MPH.
BTW I have 91 wagon RT4WD with man transm.
I found that rear shaft at diff companion flange has some play in U-joint.
I also noticed that it is NOT SERVICABLE U-joint "WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot" !
Has anyone converted NON servicable U-joints to a convetional snap ring/clamp type U-joint set-up???
I can get new one for arounf 250-260$$
Any help will be appreciated!

I was just venting saying "WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot" Honda has made U-joints non serviceable!
On top of things the machine shop I'd gone in the past doesn't exist anymore!
The place (4Xshaft) I’ve dealt with for my 4X4 stuff doesn't want to deal with fabbing such prop shaft.
I will figure out how to get it fixed.
For now it is in 2WD mod....
As for vibrations, they were constant as if U-joint has excessive play.
Cheers!
CRV guys have the same issue, and they have found a replacement alternative, i'd venture to guess they may be similar (my wagon is 3rd gen or i'd check). Search hondasuv.com for many posts on the topic.
I know all methods to get shaft "ballanced". However, there is no way you can get U-joint fixed if it has worn out causing wibrations that cannot be cured my "hose clamp method" - Only remedy is to R+R d-shaft or U-joints!
Cheers!
I don't want to mask the problem, I want to permanently eliminate it properly! Hose clams remedy is temporary use only FYI.
What would you do with a U-joint that has about 1/16 of end play each way - ballance it anyways - think about it for a momnt!!!
I also have found that rear diff bushings are worn out (top) causing too much torque wrpa (twist). So I have to take care that problem as well!
Bushings (worn) will causepremature U-joint wear!
Cheers!
