3 bikes, 3 people, a picnic lunch and all the gear (and beer). That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

looks like you guys had a lot of fun dude. wheres the third bike though..?
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
3rd bike is inside. See the handlebars and the fork stanchions right in the middle of the hatch? It's standing up with the rear wheel between the driver's seat and the b-pillar...all 3 front wheels are in there, too  .

trucks have their place. I've taken 6 people with bikes to neighboring states in my Suburban. It's actually cheap if you split the gas.

thats true, i guess i meant it as in pickup trucks. i never did see the point in those things. why not just get a van? most people cover the beds anyways... i guess thats just the european side of me... :?
  • bam-bam Kind of new to the board and just spent some time looking over your ride you have done some nice work. I plan on using mine as a "hauler" as well so I can appreciate the work you have done yet you have added some clean style. I really like the look of the stock steelies with the chrome trim. Are they chrome trim rings on the actual wheel? (I would call them beauty rings but then I would really be dating myself). I remember the older Honda's (late 70's early 80's) had them but haven't seen them much recently. With the resurgence in popularity of stainless lips it's a nice idea. I have been contemplating wheels but for now I might just go up to a 14 steelie and give it the black and chrome treatment like yours. Then I can always throw snows on them for the winter if I do ever decide on an OEM alloy wheel.

Thanks, man. Those are beauty rings... that's what I've always heard 'em called. I just painted the stock wheels and shined up the caps and lugs, then went to Hubcap Annie (local used wheel place) and paid $20 for 4 rings. "Jest go on out thar by the fence and pick out a set" I think the guy said they were from a Rabbit? I picked through about 40 to find a set that matched.

I've been looking for 14s, too. The Ex trans has shortened the gearing and I'm thinking some taller tires will stretch her legs a little.
  • Nice! :D Well looks like I am on a mission I don't think Hubcap Annie's gotten herself around to opening up here but next weeks trip to the jukyard might yield something, got to lock down some 14's first.

I was reading about the trans options. Motor and trans in mine so far are bone stock but as I do make quite a few highway trips I really would like to gear up fifth some. I haven't made a full decision on a future motor swap yet though I am leaning for minimal fuss so I will probably be able to keep the stock trans, what do you think about the stock 2WD wagon tranny with the HF 5th gearset?
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
I've thought about it, and have the trannies to do it, but I think I'll try a straight-up DX next. I can buy them for $55 each, so it's easy to swap. (I've had this car for a year and have 5 transmissions) The EX/Si is fun to drive, but actually gets better mileage city than highway :?
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
the DX wagon tranny sits inbetween the regular DX and Si tranny, and is the same as the EX tranny, i believe. according to SiWagon :D
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
yeah, i was talking about the DX sedan box. i bought one awhile back, paid $100 then realized it's an '88...anybody need an '88 dx trans, with clutch and cover?
  • RevmaynardRevmaynard Council Member
That's tempting. My 88 DX trans has a weak clutch and bad bushings from three people learning on it since 1999 with no replacement lol. (Irony is I didn't learn in this car and I'm stuck with the shitty clutch and stuff haha.)
