Just spent last two hours reading entire thread, beauty! Think you could put up link to the camper thread, the one a couple pages back sends ya to HCW.. thanks Bam! Definatly keeps me motivated.
Well, the ol' girl needed some love yesterday. I was coming home from the lake with boat in tow. I was stopping to do an errand, and when I got off the interstate I smelled coolant. Sure enough, there was steam coming from under my hood. The temp wasn't up, so I continued on to Northern's parking lot.
the top radiator hose had a hole in it.
no biggie. There are 3 parts houses in sight of where I parked.
I think I used the hose from the '92 Integra donor car, but the one O'reilly had for that application didn't suit me. I browsed their wall of hoses and came up with this
Well, it pays to do a little preventive maintenance.
We're leaving for a 6 hour run to Florida this week, so I decided to check ol' cnote over.
Since I've had a random starting issue, I did a little troubleshooting and figured that the starter was at fault. Further investigation revealed that the starter bolts were loose, causing a poor ground.
Figured I'd clean the plugs and distributor contacts... I usually remove the distributor to work on it- just easier to me. Also allows me to feel for bearing drag etc.
So I take off the cap and notice that the rotor screw is backed out! Only thing holding the screw in is the plastic shrouding over the diz "guts".
Also found that some other coolant hoses are soft-ish. Will replace before travel for sure!
Update: today I'm pulling the trusty LS. It's been in service for almost exactly 4 years, and has put a little over 51K on the old clock. It still runs well, if a little thirsty for oil.(I guess the nitrous escapades may have had some part in that). We figured out that some 12K of those miles have been spent with the camper in tow. It works well, but a little more torque wouldn't hurt...
Three weeks from now, we'll be leaving for the 3rd annual Keys trip. I've had this JDM B20 sitting here for some 8-9 months, and have decided to have it along for the trip. Here we go again!
LS to B20 is an easy swap... if you arent done today i will shame you ... me and chase pulled the head on his sisters eg last week in 20 minutes, we had the head pulled and disassembled, we pulled the motor in his crx in less time than it took his brother to swap wheels between his integra and a friends civic. so master bam should have no problems.
You will enjoy the B20's bottom end. As Josh mentioned,
I slapped one in the red DC2 last year and haven't looked back, she is turbo now.. w/ 250 lbs. trq.
The B20 gives you the option to shift early.. has tons of grunt and is very drive-able. Basically like a big, low revving LS. Perfect for your application.
Sometimes I feel like the B20 might as well have come with a turbo from the factory in some cases. For it is soo user friendly and forgiving.
Do you happen to know if its the JDM "big valve" you have?
Do you happen to know if its the JDM "big valve" you have?
No, it's the p75 head version, not p8r. It is the high-compression one with knock sensor, though.
I didn't end up having the time to work on it today, a couple of other crises erupted. It will be a straightforward swap, I'll use the same intake and exhaust manifolds as are on the LS now. I'll add a heavy-duty clutch while I'm in there, and swap the tranny for another (quieter) LS box that I have.
Later I'll add the fresh b16a head that I have, so I dropped off the p28 ECU today for some work. He's going to disable VTEC for now, and add a copy of a recent dyno-tune that he did on an identical engine. Should be a little better than the stock obd1 pr4 I'm using now.
Also, I'm adding a Walbro 255 pump while it's down. The fuel pump is probably the only piece of this car I've never laid hands on. I figure it's about time. I always carry a main relay and a spare distributor, but the pump is a liiitle bit harder to get at, and potentially problematic.
Think I'll put a new pair of rear calipers on as well. The left one drags a bit at times.
hey Bam how many miles are showing on the dash of Cnote..????
i know ive tagged along a many of miles behind in Odie or Scrappy even road shotgun a time or 2..
hope the swap goes smooth for you .....
ive got a nice smooth spot on a concrete pad or back further in the shade for your to park here....!
wow man, I just went through a few pages here and there an skipping through!
I've seen pictures online of the wagon with the wagon trailer and the 4x4 lifted civic and loved the hell out of them, and they are both yours! Incredible builds man, much respect to you, how many wagons do you own!?
Bam the REAL Question is how many wagons have passed thru the BamTec Garage ..... i think my favorite was the Red RT and i of all people understood the reason you let that one go and replaced with the pair of gold rt's

This may sound like a pickup line but... I like your boat
I'm beginning to like it more myself. I think we've finally exorcised the electric gremlins that have plagued the summer.

for an '89 Tracker 4cyl. Fits great!

Car gets moved to her new home hopefully next week. Then I'll get to it...

Got the manifolds off of the b20, cleaned up the surfaces, changed the timing belt, adjusted the valves last night.
Pulled the trusty LS today.
Still has good compression, plugs look good. Just needs valve seals, maybe guides, maybe a VTEC head?
But it's got to go for now.
I had a feeling when you were texting me yesterday that motor was coming out.
I was talking with Pat about life and wagons yesterday.
Got to take his one for a spin yesterday. It made it's maiden voyage down to Macon Saturday without a hick-up.
I'm betting not too long the way he does no piss ball around with things.
I'm a bachelor this week, so plenty of spare time I hope.

Fool's Gold
Pebbleswagon
Wagocamper
blue parts car
gold parts car
gray shell
7 at the moment? Only 3.5 are functional!

Thinning the heard. I think you need one or two more so you got one for every day of the week.
