-Joy- 87 3rd gen Wagovan

After discovering my 88rt was not able to be repaired I decided I wanted another wagon. What I didn't expect to find was a 3rd gen in this good of shape around here. I got it home last Saturday and have yet to get it off the trailer. The engine is seized and I'm taking it to the shop very soon for an engine swap. I'd atempt it myself but I'm too lazy after the recent insane amounts of overtime I'm getting at work. This way the new Joy will be on the road asap.

Enough talk here's some pictures.

Glad you found another so soon. Lovin that wheel color :D

What motor are you swapping in?

The d16a6 that's currently in my 88rt. I wish it was a z6. But I plan on getting it rebuilt and doing a mini me on it until I can get some serious power into her. ;) Lol yeah the color was hot pink and it faded into a more orange. It's getting my 15" fat fives put on from my 88 and they will be a smexy white. Might keep the 13's around for later.

[IMG][/img]attachment.php?attachmentid=822&d=1351045200Here's a pretty decent shot of the rims.

When I can get the rust repaired and get her repainted I'll be doing the rims white with lo pro tires. I'm thinking white with the black trim. Also been thinking about just doing a straight two-tone as I haven't seen any wagons that way. Any suggestions? I'm thinking either a creamy white with a blue or something along those lines. I'll have to get some photoshopage going. Any color scheme ideas? :D

Well after a couple days trying to get the rear hatch open, I finally got it last night. So here's that picture I promised.
Not %100 perfect but it looks amazing in person. I'm extremely happy with it. 485.jpg

Thanks Billboard! Also got the front end lowered a bit. Wanna eventually go lower but I live in the middle of no where right now.
    Before:
  • Fuck ya. Good Job. Once I get a nice set of 15's I might just go back up a bit.
  • GlifiousGlifious Wagonist
Thanks man. Too rough a ride?
  • Not really. But I'll take some picks of the belly when I get a chance lol. Plus I'm pretty sure one of my struts is bent.
  • GlifiousGlifious Wagonist
Lol damn man, I wanna go lower so I'll def be getting some extended tophats.

After talking to a few shops around town I decided I'll just be doing the swap myself. They're wanting way too much for something so simple. So this weekend she's going in.

Very clean wagon, I like the plaid headliner, thats what i want to do with mine, i just havent found the right one. And my driver seats ripped in the exact same spot, haha, i guess its the way the seats were made? Its nice to see more 3gs!

Well my 88RT is the heart donor, so everything under the hood is going into this beautiful lady. I honestly didn't even think about that though, Haha. And yes I believe the stitching just ripped there from sun baking and daily use. Maybe someday when I'm rich I can get the entire interior professionally re-upholstered. :P I've seen some nice how to d16 swap articles on RPR so that'll be a major help! God knows I'll need it.
  • GlifiousGlifious Wagonist
Oh and the headliner was a huge pain in the ass only because of the rear interior panels that go up to the sky lights, just an fyi for when you do yours. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did. All in all it wasn't too awfully bad.

Here is one of a few guides to do a d series swap if you guys are interested. http://www.redpepperracing.com/wiki/ind ... a_1G/3G%3F
  • After months of gathering and saving for parts, I've finally been able to make some headway on this engine. I decided to keep the Original block and rebuild an Si head for a mini me. I've added the Weber Carburetor and began to Devac the intake manifold. Si cylinder head with Si inner valve springs and DX outer, Dx Camshaft. Cleaned all the small brackets and misc and repainted a lot of dirty rusty stuff to try and make this 25 year old engine as new as possible again. Here's what I've got done so far in the last couple weeks.

It's always great to see more 3rd gens. Have any of you done an Si head swap or Weber install? Fun stuff. :)
  • This setup supposedly makes around 130 hp. A big upgrade from the mid 70's hp range stock. I eventually want to bore the block over 1mm and get the dished pg6? Integra Pistons with higher compression and see if it can withstand some boost on down the road. >:)
  • In for more. So you decided to rebuild the stock seized motor instead of swapping in the d16?
  • Yes sir. More pics on the way. Stock original EW1 bottom end with only new seals and gaskets. I cleaned up the cylinders and pistons and it turns over really well. It should be one Badass little engine. The only reason it was seized was from sitting so long. A little auto tranny fluid down cylinder 1 let it soak, clean it all out, and she turns like a champ now.
