what should i replace my master brake cylinder with?

i noticed my 91 4wd brake system was getting sluggish and not stiff and firm. i have felt this before with my camry in the past. it sinks down slowly as i keep the brake pedal down. so its time to replace it.

well my question is, should i replace it with oem stock parts or should use an after market version?

is there an after market version that is bigger and bettter?

who makes them?

Sounds like the brake booster has developed a leak.

so its not the master cylinder?

so its the booster? i did notice a small leak against the firewall but i wasnt too sure.

so which booster do i need? is there an upgrade or is there just oem replacements available?

since i have it opened up, i was thinking of just putting in a larger master cylinder. i have read on here that there is the lxi accord replacement and its bigger. anything bigger or better for both master cylinder and booster besides the lxi?

i've heard from a friend that the 90 prelude si master cylinder is a good upgrade. anyone had any experience?

aka the 15/16 master cylinder... lots of different Hondas had them... Preludes, Accords, Integras (I think???), ... One of the hard brake lines comes out at a different angle than the stock master cylinder, so some bending (or making a new brake line) is involved.

i recently swapped to the 90 prelude mc. the only thing u have to do is bend the front hard line slightly. otherwise, its as easy as 1 2 3! i also swapped to integra xs-i front hubs with new brembo blanks and nissin pads. brakes are muy bueno!

does it matter what prelude model?

is the prelude mc better for the upgrade then the accord?
  • As stated earlier, the 15/16 MC was on several cars...I used the 89 Accord LXi.
