How do I identify trans? DX/EX/SI/HF

I searched the net alot.
ive got conflicted answers, best info taken from this thread http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1551508

check casting:
PL3/A### = small bearing case - DX/HF/STD
PL3/B000 = large bearing - SI/ZC
PL3/3000/6000/9000 = large bearing - SI/ZC

Ive read about several people having exceptions to this rule

Ive been looking for a dx trans. I want lower highway rpms than what im getting now. seems everyone wants an si trans and at the same time all i can seem to find for sale is freaking SI!!!

I finally found one where they guy told me "im pretty sure its a dx" lol
i go scoop it up and when i get home i tried rotating the shaft to tell if it is. i only eyeballed it because it was getting dark, but im pretty sure its an si. :( i couldnt read the casting when i picked it up but i got to scrubbing at it and it says pl3/3000
really sounding like an si
i also heard about several people being scammed into buying a dx trans thinking it was an si... but i got duped into buying an si :/ lol

i find it really hard to believe that honda didnt have some sort of casting to identify what gearing was in the trans

im going to get a better look at my trans tomorrow

if anyone else has some insight speak up :D

You must be 1 lucky dude. Most peeps are trying to sell Si tranny 'cuz it's desirable.Considering that probably less than 6% of Civics are Si's.
Try lookin for any 88-91 Civic with a manual tranny. The junkyards are full of these. The only one's that aren't DX are the HF,4spd.,Ex ,Wagons(they're geared between a DX & Si)& Si's.If you can get a lighter HF flywhl & Si (heavier duty) OEM Clutch great.
