New sample hood pad from work installed:

Removed the fender flares for some pocket flares/more clearance. The cutting still has to be done but the pocket flares won't be here for another week or two.

The oil pressure switch started pissing oil last Friday so I filled it with used 15w40 to get it home. Did a fresh change with some 10w30 and replaced the switch. I also went ahead and changed out the fan clutch. Mine was way past bad. I got my leaf springs and bushings and my adjustable shackles should be here hopefully tomorrow. If they show up by Friday I'll have my lift and pocket flares on by Saturday.

I look forward to seeing this raised up.

Im gunna raise my CR-V at some stage, not much though as its still basically a car. Just want about 15mm more clearance to get over a couple trails here

Old Man Emu/OME does a lift for your CRV, it's about $350.

Looking good Rev. I always wanted one of these older jeeps, I just can't steer away from honda long enough to get one... Maybe one day!

    Which=$430+shipping to NZ=$500+ :shock:

There are two other companies available in NZ that do as well, King Springs and Dobi Sport. I have found some Bilstein struts as well.
  • RevmaynardRevmaynard Council Member
I think there is a company called Camel Offroad/Camel 4x4 who sells front and rear lift springs for the Pre-01 CRV for about $130 a set if you wanna look into those. If I remember correctly they were only like 1.5 inch lift though. Considered coil spacers? If you have stock specs I could measure some Jeep spacers.....which can be had for about $80 for 4....:D
  • NZ-DB8RNZ-DB8R Moderator
I have a mate who can source me some King Springs ones for $250NZ.
Will look into other options though, dont think coil spacers are legal here.
  • RevmaynardRevmaynard Council Member
If you find out more let me know, I mic'd the spacers I have for the Cherokee. I'll post them on your Facebook if you decide they'll help. :)

Lift and flares Friday. Also installed an adjustable trackbar and sway bar disconnects.

Last morning pulling out of the driveway in stock form:

    Needs brakes asap.

    Busted track bar. Good riddance!

It sits level, but it was parked on an incline.

Severe death wobble caused my to tow it home 12 miles. Luckily I get free roadside assistance.

Doing a heavy duty steering kit and ball joints this week, then an alignment. That should take care of it.

For reference, this is death wobble:

In the trucks I work on, a wobble like that is from insufficient caster angle. Do you have a way to regain caster after that lift?
  • RevmaynardRevmaynard Council Member
Yea, that's a part of it, but wouldnt cause the wobble I had. I've got a new HD steering kit (Drag link, tie rod tube, and all TREs/and ball joints) which the stock stuff is causing most of the slop. It had a bit before which we pegged on the track bar that was SHOT, but the ball joints and TREs aren't much better and when lifted a slight vibration will become a huge vibration. I had planned to drive it to the alignment shop Saturday but I might as well wait until I swap the stuff over at this point. I've been looking at stamp dates/part numbers on stuff as I take it off and I think everything has been OE from '92 at this point. The leaf springs would compress 2-3 inches with 150lb guy on them. lol But doing ball joints, tie rod ends, and an alignment should take care of it all. I also got a new steering stabilizer just because. Also, I have extended lower control arms which correct the caster.

There seemed to be some slop between the track bar bracket and the frame (even impact tight), so I drove over to a friends place to have it tacked up. After that it improved the characteristics a lot, but something was still off. From there I swapped my stock wheels on because they have better tread, and also swapped my new stabilizer on. That combined with an alignment have taken it down to almost non-existent. I can drive up to 75mph with no problems, and I've only had a slight shudder from it once since that was all taken care of. I've still got the heavy duty steering setup and new ball joints, but the joints were nice and tight as well as the stock TREs. We'll see how it does the rest of this week/weekend.

It looks so tiny with those wheels, but all 5 31's are in the hatch. I left the bumper cover for that side in the shop at work, but I'll get it back on in the next few days.

I was going to do the steering system in the driveway over the weekend, but it rained when I had the time. Luckily I didn't get that done though, work wants to test out a new high-steer system on my Cherokee so it would have been in vain had I done it. haha

I want some flares like that but about half the size. Any idea on where I could pick some up, I've tried to find some for a while now.
  • RevmaynardRevmaynard Council Member
I feel that Andrew! Cost of gas isn't great, but luckily I didn't buy it for that! haha Right now I'm averaging 13.7mpg, my highest has been 16.6mpg and I'm not even sure how, nothing has changed as far as tire pressure/tune up or my driving habits. lol I drive this thing like a grandma, it takes me on average about 12 minutes more to get to work when I take the Jeep.

Half as in the distance they stick out? Never seen any that small....you may be able to cut some down and use the edge trim to seal it against your body better.....keep in mind these aren't cheap. Retail those are probably $400+, I'd be glad to get some pics of these or some Wrangler flares if you'd like though.
