WATERPROOFING ???
ABBEY1227
Wagonist
Hi to all,
Okay, here's the situation......my wagon is finally getting the bodywork needed to maintain it's nearly pristine condition. However, while working on the rear wheel wells i'm noticing water inside the compartment at the very back corner of the car on both sides. Luckily only one side has a small nickel sized rust hole in it, but i would like to make sure that as long as i'm in the area that i do everything i can to make sure this aquatic situation is remedied.
So does anybody have any advice as to where exactly this stuff is sneaking in?? I've already taken the rear bumper off and i'm planning on sealing up all the mounting holes, but is it possible there are seams i can't see where the water is getting in? Anybody with experience with this ....feel free to pass along your experiences !
Progress pix will be following shortly
THANKS!!!!

I am currently in China accompanying my girlfriend for her second Chinese adoption.
We found out the room we are staying in a complimentary computer and Internet access... so I can check the forum. LOL
You will be happy to know that Honda has introduced the Fit here as well, just like yours. I was able to have a really good look at the car and I like it. The rear hatch does not have as much room as I would like but the rest of the car is cool.
Anyhow, for your aquatic situation, I recommend sanding down the area, removing all the rust possible, and then using fiberglass to seal the holes.
I have done this for the gas tank on my truck and it worked beautifully.
Let me know how it worked out.
Cheers !!
You world traveler, you !! While you're over there bring me back another Gyro Canopy
Thanks for the advice. I plan on taking care of the taillights before reinstalling them, as well as the 6-10 holes for mounting the bumper. Does anyone know if there are some vulnerable spots behind the wheel well splash guards? I'd hate to waste my time pulling it all out, possibly snapping plastic bits if there isn't anything to worry about in there.
Heck, i even noticed one or two open holes in the spare tire tub. I'm guessing they wanted to use this as a drain but i think i'm gonna just seal it up too.
Keep it coming guys!
I have seen some 3-wheel scooters, but no Gyros. Remember, I am in China, not Japan.
Well, I am seeing a lot of cute little Suzuki Pandas and small 4-door hatchbacks made by GM for the Asian market.
Do you remember the original Star Trek uniform badge, the one that later on became the communicator badge? Well, they are using it for a car emblem. LOL
There are also tons of Chinese-made vans, scooters, cars, etc. I am trying to take a few good shots of each for future reference.
CHeers !!
LOL !!
i noticed today that beside the 2 or 3 holes in the spare tire well, there is a direct opening into the car in one of the holes for mounting the bumper.
Anyone else got pix or simple ideas of places to be sure to look before i'm done???
Lalunette make sure to share those pix you aquire, just so everyone can see what we're missing out on with cars that get 45-55 MPG!!
I've got to get an alignment, and pump up the tires. Heck, it would probably help if all four tires matched. Or at least the front pair and back pair.
This gives me renewed hope for my wagon, once I get it on the road.
Edit: WTF? I thought I posted this to the "wagon mileage" thread. Sorry!
We were going on and off subject anyway!
Finally got some pix of the work in progress for everybody.
Hope everything is clear enough. I got to keep that chunk of rust as a souvenir from my back fender. My Mrs. has been hard at the fiberglas filler. I even decided to coat the bumper with a rust preventative since i had it off the car. At least it'll keep it intact for a little longer
hole patched with fiberglass
front emblem removed and holes closed
ditto on the rear
right side roof rail filled YAAAYYY !!
left side rear rail shot of the filler
Well, slowly but surely. At least we'll have the peace of mind that corrosion has been abated for a little longer ! Then i'll probably get tater'd by some uninsured goofball!
PORN IS BANNED??
Anyway, i finally got some more pix to post
Hooray!!!! Progress !!!
when i got more news to report......as in,the final paint is finally on the car, you'll see some more pix
yeah, it's nice for it to finally be moving forward.
The rust on this car was NOTHING compared to what you usually see in our Midwest states
Damn roadsalt !!
oh well, i promised more pix as it goes.....so here ya go
The jams are done WoooHoooo!!!
looks really good mang!
and yeah, i know it might seem blasphemous but i went with a VW stock color called Blue Graphite. It has just a hint of blue to it, but most times you'd almost swear it's a grey graphite look. AND it really matches the color of the dash nicely, i lucked out there.......nah, i knew it would turn out nice
here's some more progress pix !!
soon as i get the thing put back together i'll have some more for ya !
Nice work!!!!
well, i do have some pix with the masking off, but with good comes bad.......... i had just finished getting a quote on replacing the missing molding from my windshield. i go outside to clean up & see that overnight, the windshield decided it needed replacing too
aaaaarrrrghhh!!!!!
