89 rt trans

Ok I've read a few posts and seen two different things. One being the 88 and 89 are different from the 90 -91, but also read that just the 88 is different. I have a 90 and the reverse is going out and I found a trans a guy says is a 89 and im just wondering if it will work. And is the spline count the only difference? And what should the count be for 89 and also for the 90

good luck....nobody has found replacement gears....i ordered a reverse idler gear straight from honda...last one in america....guess what, WRONG GEAR. special order, cant return...sweet.

Awesome! Im guessing these reverses are known to be weak then? I can pick up a whole trans id just like to be able to use the whole thing and not have to take just reverse out.

You could probably buy a whole tranny from someone....I would still HIGHLY suggest at least cracking the case and checking all the grears. Just to make sure. Reverse is SUPER easy to replace in them.

I had already seen that but wasn't sure because im pretty sire I read somewhere before that the 88-89 was the same and different from the 90-91 so I was just double checking.
