Another Viscous Coupler question

So my VC stopped working and its not leaking.. took her all apart all the seals and bearings look fine.... instead of trying to mess with another used one does anybody know where to get a new or reconditioned VC? prolly expensive but not too concerned about that.

I don't think they are available.
  • I found a company that makes them, just not for the honda.. im trying to see if they can make a run of them for the RT4wd.. I wonder if people would want to buy them
  • are you 100% sure that it is the VC that stopped working?
  • yes I am sure of it
  • how'd you determine that it doesn't work?
  • put it up on the lift, with no load the 4wd worked, when added a load to the rear wheels the front driveline spun and the rear did not.
  • Mine was like that before I rebuilt it. When I took it apart it had fluid, but not as much as it should have. I'm pretty sure I damaged it by not paying attention to tire diameters, it's VERY important that they be the same (measure circumference, keep them within 3/16 in. of each other front to rear). After replacing the seals and refilling it works great.

Search this forum for "viscous", you'll find a couple of threads with info on rebuilding.

Also this youtube clip has some useful info.

I have some of the fluid for sale.

I really don't see a need to reproduce them, they are rebuildable (despite what Honda says) and would be very expensive to make.

If you've already disassembled it, you're well on your way, finish the job.
  • Yeah i read all of those already... I found a company that if we were to send them some cores they could start re-manufacturing them for a good price.. the prototype will be free and all the time building it as well. He will also put together a "rebuild" kit for this specific VC.

If i can get my hands on a few cores i will send them out to him so he can work his magic.
