91 4sp manual could use some help on some things

I have a few questions on some things.
1) I need to replace my front transmission mount and was told it is easy to replace just need to unbolt it and jack up the car a bit to get to the bottom bolt and swap out the new mount?
2) I also need to replace the rear struts BAD! I plan to use Monroe struts part #71238.
I was told I could just jack up the back and swap out the old with the new ones and do not need a spring compressor to do it?
(Believe the back springs are cut) I have never done this before but figured it shouldn't be to difficult.

Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure if you will need a spring compressor or not, but if you find out that you do I believe that you can still "rent" a spring compressor from Autozone for free (with a refundable deposit). I used one on my Suburban and it worked pretty well. Might make it less of a hassle, though I'm not sure, it might be easier on a civic than on the suburban.

    1. Yes, just put a jack under the transmission to take the weight and change the mount.

    2. You'll need to compress the springs unless yours are cut down or really sagged. To check that jack up the car and let the wheel sag and see if you can move the spring around.
  • Thanks guys yes u can still rent them from auto zone or orilieys and get your money back after you return them. I should have the struts tomorrow and hope to tackle the fixes this weekend.
My springs are cut just not sure how much.
  • Well guys got the rear struts installed night and day difference as to be expected!

I replaced the existing blown struts with monroe struts #71238 and kept the rear springs which are cut with coil over sleeves.

The bottom perch seamed to be a bit loose on the sleeves compared to the old struts I am assuming this should not be an issue as I have seen some people grind this off.......?

Also after taking off the old struts I see there are no bump stops not sure if there is suppose to be any on there??

The bump stops fit on the strut shaft, but over time they get old and crumbly. Yours probably just fell apart. I think you can still get them from Honda though.
