Weird RT Problem with trans

Trans is in gear when shifter is in neutral. Putting in any gear causes it to lock up and not move. Is this possibly because shift fork slipped on shaft? I've seen this on VW aircooled trans, but never on any other Honda box. I was horsing around with friends and was doing a burnout in SL, went into wheel hop, then locked up and stopped. Put it in Neutral and found it to be stuck in a higher gear, (third, I think) drove home in neutral, but no amount of prying, etc will get it out of gear.

Will a standard EF transmission fit my RT if I change to a tube-type shifter assembly? RT transmissions are very rare here, and I've not been able to find one in a wrecking yard so far. The car had no drive shaft when I bought it, so it has no rear wheel drive to fight with the new 2-WD box if I have to do it this way.

Thanks for any help or suggestions you could give me,

Jesse

  • Yes... It does happen. Sometimes the shift selector gets hot and sticks or bends. Or is could be an issue with one of the forks (main/counter shafts). Open up the case and see if you can see the selector stuck. That's a tricky problem. You cant always see if its bent. If it is then get another selector and put it in. When you do so make sure its in neutral it helps shut the case a bit easier. Don't force anything, transmissions are very simple. Finesse is best!

You would probably have to measure the shift linkage from a d series trans and see if it will line up with your shifter. Is there even a hole in the floor under where your shifter is connected, I thought the RT's have cable shift and im not sure if it goes under the car?
