Transmission Bearing?

My 91 RT manual wagon is making a noise, a clicking noise similar to axle clicking. Except its not they axles, they have been replaced. The noise/clicking is only noticeable under heavier acceleration. When accelerating really slowly I cannot hear the noise. Turning has no affect on the noise/clicking. I went under the car and looked around, seems like there is some movement on the transmission end of the propeller shaft. My wild guess is maybe that its a transmission bearing? I'm really lost, any help is appreciated. Thanks

  • Symptoms if the differential bearing is busted or differential is cracked:
    Does the axle seals leak?
Are you getting an engine light?
    Check for differential play.

Put the car on jack stands turn the car on, turn the wheel and put it in gear and press the gas.
If you hear the popping sound it is differential.. Bearings or its cracked....

Pull your axles and if your differential looks anything like this your f#%ked... You are better off buying a new tranny!!

The axles don't seem to leak, and there is no check engine light. How would I check for differential play?

Is the front u-joint ok? One of the driveshafts I have had was damaged because of the first joint failing.

For starters, disengage the transfer gear and see if it changes.
  • Put the car on jack stands get under the car and pull back and forth and front to back.
Do this where the axle goes into the tranny.
if you feel any play pull your axles and check the diff.
