MT RT4WD Transmission Doesn't Like 2,4,R

So as I posted in another thread I removed the larger of the two shifter arms from my transmission to drill out a stuck cotter pin and am unsure of my installation. After getting the car back together and on the ground the transmission will not properly mesh in 2 4 or reverse. Skipping out and grinding when trying to shift. I'm thinking it could be because I got the gear selector lever a tooth off. Does this seem reasonable? If so does anyone know which direction I need to move the selector (clockwise or counter clockwise) to make 2,4 and Reverse work properly? The car is finally out of the shop and running but thanks to this weirdness with the transmission other than a lap around the block I'm still not driving it.

An explanation of what those shifters actually do internally would probably do it for me and I could figure the rest out myself, Could the upper lever not shifting all the way cause all three gears to not mesh correctly?

Well I was right... the shifter arm was off a tooth. I move it one tooth clockwise and everything works like a charm. Sorry for posting these threads about things I can figure out myself... Just sit here at work and try and figure out whats going wrong and since I can't actually test my ideas on the car I try and get feedback from someone who might know. I drove the car to work this morning so hopefully this is the end of my problems for now.
