Is REVING 4K bad for the wagon??

Driving on the highway at 70-80 mph,(edit, lol) at nearly 4k rpms!

i almost want to buy a 2nd car, because my wagons rpms are so high on the highway!

does this effect anything? or is it ok?

damn if i got 70-80 mpg on the highway i would be happy. i think you are talking about mph. it think it is normal to be at 4k. you could always drive slower.

There are things a lot worse for your engine than cruising at 4k all day.

But if that's your biggest concern, think about it...
Honda has traditionally built small, high rpm motors.
Smaller size displacement lends itself to rev-ability.

When recalling some of the key traits of Honda, most people will include "reliability".
This would explain why so many people here are able to still use a nearly 20 year old car as a daily driver. On the other hand, it is nearly 20 years old, so don't be surprised when s#it breaks.

But even a well engineered, quality intensive car is only as good as its maintenance. Follow the maintenance schedule and it will keep performing like it was designed to.
    Especially oil changes.

i do take care of her, and keep up with maintenence.

but i dont feel i got a clear answer. sorry.

(im not gona drive slower) so, do you recommend me not cruisin at that high of rpms, or it doesnt matter.
  • It's fine. What kind of mpg are you getting when all highway?

    Also,

Honda makes F1 cars, they are designed to turn 19k+ RPMs for very long periods of time, I'm sure that they have some of that experience into their motors as well.

Mine runs around 3k at 55-60mph, so, it sounds about normal.

i dont know what kinda mpg i get.. never calculated it. i drive like its a sports car, so probably shitty.. i drive it like its a sports car not to be cool and ricer, im jus trying to get where im going in the same day. lol.

1999-2000 Honda Civic Si's are the same way. i remember when i had mine two yrs ago.. crusing at 90 mph, your in vtec.. and i drove like that always so i guess its ok.

    :? Isn't yours a 4WD :?: If it is that's why you're reving so high.The 4WDs were geared lower for off-roading.

you guys think the SOHC VX internals would fit in a RT4wd tranny? Those transmissions have longer gears.

At 80 mph my mpg goes to crap. If I can keep my foot off the gas and cruise around 60 I get over 30mpg.

 Probably NOT.The 4WD internals are REALLY different. :?
  • My wife drives hers at 150kmh (93mph) on the autobahn and it screams, but still drives like a dream and just hit 143,000 km.

    I have 4000rpm exactly at 125kmh (78mph)...
Max speed is about 190, it's really devil's car...

OK going by a discussion on another forum that i frequent, this might explain a few things..

Max torque = max fuel = best engine harmonics.

So below and on max torque, you should be fine to run consistantly alot.
