Engine noise, Low RPMS

I am purchasing a vehicle in the next week or so in another state, (620 miles away to be exact).

The guy posted up:

"The flaw of the vehicle is that it does make minimal clicking noise in the engine at low RPM's so it may need little engine work. I personally do not think that it is anything too bad because it starts up everytime, drives absolutely fine & does not smoke at all."

I personally don't know if this enough information, or what the possible issue could be since I can't physically be there, so I want to know if this trip is worth while, or fixable.

Thank you.

hopefully something as simple as needing a valve adjustment? Hard to really tell without more.

I was thinking maybe changing the spark plugs?

First thought is valve adjustment as well.

It could be quite a few things as sounds are really hard to describe accurately, but by far the most likely on a Honda D series or even a B series for that matter is tappet noise, which is easily fixed by adjusting the valve lash.

There is an outside chance it could be piston slap or gudgeon pin noise, both of which indicate more serious repairs might be soon required. The latter two are more of a knock or deep rattle than a tappy rattle. To much spark can also cause a rattle.

A noise described as clicking is almost always tappets.

Thank you all for the information. I am going to contact the seller and ask if there is anyway he can describe the noise with more detail. If its a valve adjustment, I will have to take some tools down to NC and do it while there and then start the car up, hopefully the owner doesn't notice the difference. :D Might also bring a set of spark plugs while I am at it.
