Shit happens. Turns out the wagon drives pretty good with the outer cv in the knuckle torqued down and just the half shaft and right front. Probably not good for the diff but my spare was at home and it seemed to tackle the hills just fine using the rear.
Good stuff, that's pretty much what I was planning on using when I do a belly pan. Were there any bolt holes that were reused for this or was it mostly all tapping new ones?
5 welded nuts to steel plates, put those on my innovative crossmember replacement, the other 4 in the rear are nuts welded to thick washers then welded to front of the floor with a standoff to make it level with the "frame" adding two more on the "frame" later for some security in case i need to be pulled off a snowbank backwards. all good grade 8 bolts, washers, and nuts. plenty of spares too, if the threads act weird at all i chunk it. Hardware was easily 70% of the cost
Nice, next time you have it popped off could you take some pics of that, I'd like to see. I'm debating on using some rivnuts for this type of thing, but definitely see the need for plates on the crossmember. I have the same one so I'll likely be doing something quite similar.
weeeelllll i guess its time for an update. Ive been slacking. HOPE YOU GUYS LIKE PICTURES!!!
Life has been real weird as of late and there's been a lot of moving around. Out of new england, to dallas for a few, then to Murfreesboro TN.
But I've had the chance to race in TX, AL, VA, and AR
So i guess after all the rallycross and fun snow driving the wagon stort picks back up at Briane Corn Raceway down in San Marcos where i ended up about a second behind her after she locked up a motor and swapped cars.
Got the chance to pop back over to visit my bros at Red River SCCA back home in Shreveport for a weekend and slid the wagon around the parking lot at hilariously low speeds
then to one with the ARSCCA dudes where i ended up grenading yet another axle so no place there and the motor bent a rod and locked up on my way home. had to leave it in a friends field because i was moving. car was only there for about a week and some junkies broke in and stole all my gauges, stereo, tools, jack, sleeping bag, fire extinguisher, air pump, PENS, and broke lots of plastics that didnt even give them access to anything. Insurance didn't cover crap but the stereo and the battery pretty much. Really crappy time.
I found this out the day i moved from dallas to tn, while the car was in AR. Had it moved to jon-wa-GO-van's Pop's place for a bit while i started doing what i do best, starting over.
I pulled my old notec sohc zc block out of storage and dug around to find my vitara pistons and p2p0 rods i bought about 5 years ago....
disassembled, and notched the block. dropped it off to be punched out to 75.5 at my local machine shop while i started cleaning and painting parts.
got the block back and threw it together. Taiho bearings, everything checked out. npr rings gapped to what seemed best for my application.
While i was assembling the block and collecting parts Cole Mulvey at Badguys was putting new guides, seals, and cutting valves/seats for me on the head. Oh yeah and some mild port work while he was in there couldn't hurt right? had some rocket springs and retainers i already had thrown in at the same time.
B12 Chemdip is some AWESOME stuff. just throw your parts in as disassembled as you like, let em soak. Then pull em out brush and rinse!
Picked up a type r 62mm throttle. MAP on top, no FITV on the bottom, matched the new Edelbrock intake.
You getting excited yet? i was by this point!
More paint and more parts! fresh cap and rotor on the dizzy. painted the block.
Got the head back and loaded up my stuff in the the second worst rental car ive ever driven, a Jeep Compass. What a piece of junk.
Made it to Jon's and we were off to go grab the wagon from his pop's and drag it back to his place.
We tried live streaming a lot of the engine swap, but had to make lots of parts runs. for the few of you that watched it, i hope you enjoyed all the nonsense and fluid spillage.
Motor came out in a few hours and then the head, pan and other goodies went on.
not a lot of pics of the rest since i was streaming it. i would say go check it out on my youtube but i dont recommend anyone waste their time doing something like that. Dropped the motor in, had a few hiccups, broken bolts, torn seals but i got it in and fired up for the first few heat cycles.
Did a little bit of quick tuning and what not, and we got his DOHC swap running while i was there. Got a little bit of new vinyl courtesy of Prennro over at Fox Designs! then i headed home to TN to get the everything broken in.
Since getting it back up and running in March ive added an oil cooler to protect all this investment.
then took it 1200 miles to visit some friends in Denver, drive some mountain roads and headed from there straight back down to Arkansas to pick up some things i didnt have room for at Jon's and.....finish the breakin by rallycrossing it.
back to TN to dump the last pan of break-in oil and swap to the synth 5-30. More painting, some offroading (getting stuck), and then kayak carrying! Took a trip to the Tail of the Dragon on my birthday in May and cruised across the Cherohala Skyway to get there.
More paint, you know i love some wrinkle black too.
Then the bolt that holds the throw out bearing fork to the clutch lever decided the Comp Stage 4 6-puck clutch pressure plate was too much for it and snapped into 3 pieces so the motor came out again to swap back to my stock exedy. Might as well paint the trans while it's out right?
trans back in.....hmm i think i may have forgotten to mention that it was HOT AF in texas so i cut holes in the roof back then and put some vents in!
then back down to AR for some wagoning, rallycross, camping, and kayaking!
somehow my dumbass didnt bother checking the distributor with a timing light after putting the other clutch on and the motor back in and i drove the whole way and raced with the timing at full retard. So i ended up 3rd in Mod All and 6th over all missing about 20* of timing lol. Still had fun though!
and it was memorial day so we got a little 'merican https://www.facebook.com/theabide/posts/10100866334122076
Floored it back home since thats the only way i could get up the hills with a yak on the roof and the timing so low.
Then this arrived, Rocket stage 4 regrind for the z6. picked up a comp cams degree kit and got it dialed in with the lobe center at 104* per his suggestion. After adding more ignition timing it feels like ive picked up power just about everywhere. it pulls hard at Vtec around 5000 and has a nice little lub at idle. not noticable if you arent listening for it.
Next it was time to see where it really stands. So i headed over to Virginia for the SCCA Dirtfish East Rallycross Nationals.
two days, 3 courses and 12 subaru imprezas Vs 1 civic wagon in mod all. I ended up right in the middle at 7th, the courses gave them a decent advantage in the morning but im not elated with my driving or the results. I cant be too upset when this is the average competition though.
definitely had a blast and it was a ton of fun racing on that level. met lots of folks including a few one town over from me back here. They convinced me to head down to the tennessee valley region SCCA in Hollytree Alabama. one of the best surfaces ive ever raced on.
where i set the fastest lap of the day/rungroup but just couldnt catch the subarus with no interiors. half a second behind a 2.5 rs and a bit further behind another sti 3rd in class and 3rd overall.
I kind of wish i had just bought some p29 pistons and had 12:1 compression. probably would have been enough for a few places at nationals and a FTD in AL, but i think ive got the fix.
So thats where I'm at now. just waiting for the budget to get the turbo on and then the only excuse for not being the fastest thing out there is my driving ability. I'll try to keep more up to date. Next race is the dixie challenge back in AL the first weekend in Sept.
2 years of updates...hahaha....very cool though. Love to see them raced hard! I will be following your turbo build. BTW, Welcome to TN, I am next door in Franklin! Good luck!
itll probably be another year before i get the stupid thing on lol.
heck yeah dude! let me know if you ever want to cruise! we have two more here in murf, Jared has the one on bags thats getting a turbo and Brian has that blue K24 swap. neither are up and running quite yet.
you going to the National championship in KS this year?
gonna depend on budget, ive got the dixie challenge in AL early next month. And i know i dont really have a shot at the national challenge until its boosted. I'll be there next year for sure but if i go this year itll be last minute. I do really want to though!
HPT is an incredible facility though! I was there with LowFlyin for a WRL race a few months ago and they had a SCCA tracknight, two day WRL endurance race, two day autox, two day motocross, AND a sprint car race all at the same time. It was an awesome time!

Finished first in class and 4th overall http://www.arscca.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=312:2017-rallycross-event-1-raw&catid=99&Itemid=103
