Great read! Reading through this build just makes me realize how bad I suck at being a mechanic....it's cool to see someone who knows what they're doing fix things bit by bit getting closer and closer back to perfect. I enjoy all the pictures and your writing as well. I think I wanna try that map light mod! Wishing you luck on the swap.
Thank ya much sir. I feel a little narrative makes the pics a bit more enjoyable.
What i'm finding hilarious is that if i hadnt bought the wagon i could have finished the SCCA STR build on my s2000, light wheels huge tires suspension, tunes, ect. but i know i wouldnt be nearly as happy every day. As much as i love the S2Ki forum it's become a little childish now that the early models are down to 10k-ish. HCW has just been a joy since day 1. Plenty of folks on here willing to really help with the hard stuff, and then the crazy ones that have to be taking lsd or something with the zany projects that they come up with and actually make it WORK!
You can really tell on every thread, It's not just another car to anyone on here.
after the z6 comes a few more items. traction bar so i can run a half size radiator the right way without gangsta lean.
Ive got some teg LS meshes getting blasted tomorrow, then painted in a week or two.
Shooting for a couple lbs of boost by 2013. then hopefully a little vitara build early next year.
"Unfortunately" I just bought a house and that murdered my budget bigtime. But it's been very nice to get settled in on my own finally.
well this z6 is in the car and cranks but ive got all kinds of issues to iron out still
mainly the old crank bolt that was just shoved in there. hopefully the crank threads are still good. and i need to rebuild the keyway on the crank itself. joy.
new bolt pulled what was left of the threads before getting close to spec and theres a bit of noise in the motor too. so im pulling it. im pretty pissed at the guy that sold it to me. he managed to screw up the threads on 4 of the 6 balljoints on the front of the car too. they were all BRAND new.
time for a vitara.
looks like itll be down for a month or more now.
anyone miss me? or did you guys just think i gave up?
I've got a lot of work ahead of me. Starting with the purchase of a cherry picker tomorrow.
Shooting for back on the road before our one year anniversary together in August!
wow. have i really not updated this in that long? I'm sorry folks. get ready for a picture storm!
so i didnt have the funds to really start the build i want for my wagon.....so i got a garage door for the house and it's been parked in there every since i got the room. which left an open spot in the carport next to the s2k!
so i saw a craigslist add for another rt with tons of rust, hasnt cranked in a year ect. whatever for $500 ill tow it home and use the trans and a few more parts......so much for that. Meet my new daily Belle.
I put the grounding strap back on the valve cover, filled it with oil(which it still isnt burning, compared to the 2 quarts a tank on the gold wagon.) water and brake fluid! and thankfully it cranked and ran and stopped fine, because my friends heavily modified wrx barely made it up this guys "driveway" in the mountains in north arkansas. It sure as heck wasnt pulling a car dolly up there.
totally unproven car, unbled brakes, barely fitting hood, the list goes on. Pretty much the dumbest idea for a roadtrip with no planning ive ever had, and then we went offroading!
The trip was thrilling from 2 am that morning till 8 that night. made it home and got 27 mpg! not bad.
bone stock just a little aged
caught a new FSM on amazon for $10 sucker! brushing up on some rockers and cams with my kitty
and here's the turbo im gonna use on the goldie
HA just kidding, it's for my roommates hopefully 600+ whp evo lol
you didnt think i was done already did you? it's been months since ive updated this!
Ive been collecting heads for the gold wagon im planning a regrind y7 cam and rockers shoved into a z6 head with a mild port job
they look nice on a shelf in my kitchen!
the garage door got finished around July sometime
chipped a few ecus for some friends. just something to do in what little spare time i have.
threw some whiteish....bottlecaps on the rust bucket
got the gold wagon pushed into the garage and bought an engine hoist!
changed out the terrible old squealy brakes on the blue one had to rob the brakes of the other rt since the pistons were totally siezed and rusted. Ill be looking to do some DA teg brakes on the goldie before it goes back together
pulled the motor again on the gold one and robbed the innovative mounts because they were completely shot on the blue one
like....this kind of shot
did the valve clearances and found out the cam timing was off 1 tooth. so i adjusted that and the ignition timing
just had to share the other new lady in my life. Her name is Lauren and we've been dating for a few months now and she's been co-driving with me in my s2000 for autocross and ive been riding with her in her NA miata on cruises. Drag racing in monroe tomorrow night. then a miata cruise to hot springs saturday. then autox in dallas sunday.
I could never leave. I was just living vicariously though everyone else after my disappointing failed motor swap cause by one little bolt that holds the crank pulley to the crank (it was actually the crank threads, and ive got a new one ready to go in)
i still think it's hilarious that the car i bought for parts is my current daily. the motor is in incredibly good condition. better than some of my friends freshly (not so skilfully) built ones are. and after getting the timing straight it pulls perfectly well. I'm shooting for a 16.5 in it. Gotta beat the ole ZC that was in the other one and missing pieces of a valve or two! I'd probably let the blue one go for a 2nd gen or a z600 if i get the chance though. The only thing that isnt working on it is the a/c and i honestly think it's just the compressor.
Gotta teach that chica of yours proper hand placement on the steering wheel. Good to see women in motorsports - I wish there were more willing to get into it (even at the behest of there significant others). The whole time I raced my miata (95 R pkg) I could NEVER once get my wife to even try! She loved driving it on the streets though. Consider yourself lucky!
blue one ran a 17.9 was kinda sad lol expected better with the 16.5 that the gold one managed but i guess that zc cam really did make a difference! i did launch it at 7200 rpms and it stuck and bogged so the clutch is good. just no power. The strip was my stress test to make it home to TN for the holidays.
I need to get last months videos together she's really looking a cone or two ahead and keeping her hands on the wheel.

And yes that IS a honda flag
the beads tore when i unmounted them didnt bother trying to mount them. to be fair they are probably other than the rt and I.
they sure do look cool though. I think they totally would fit. might have rubbed on suspension compression though.

I'm definitely enjoying this new lady in my life.

she's very new but learning quickly and i'm pretty proud!

her 3rd even was two weeks ago and she's already keeping her hands on the wheel and looking a cone or two ahead!
Glad you're still around.
I'm down! Hopefully i'll be able to bring both by then. The gold one makes me so sad to see it up on stands with no motor or wheels or brakes....
I need to get last months videos together she's really looking a cone or two ahead and keeping her hands on the wheel.
