Refinishing Fat Fives

I am going to refinish the new wheels I got since the finish is not very good on them. I am unsure on what color I should do them. Do you guys have any opinions? I want to do the inside of the spokes a different color than the outside of the spokes. I was thinking a gold on the inside of the spokes and black outside, or black inside and gunmetal outside, or something else, idk. I don't think I want to do the outside silver again because I want them to look different than stock wheels but also looks good and compliments the color of the car. If anyone has any suggestions let me know!

Heres a picture of my car for the color to see what will look good.

This is what I meant by inside (black) and outside (silver/polished)

inside black or all one color if you put anything other then black it will not look good IMO

If you did gold on the inside...I think color matching the outside to your body would look pretty clean. The gold would break it up, make it shine but subtly. I'm interested in your final choice. Keep us posted.

i say with the color of the car, a polished wheel would look good. if you dont want to waist the time polishing or paying someone to polish them, then i'd go with a gunmetal color
  • I am having a hard time choosing colors for my wheels and have a few options, let me know which one you think will look best.

Keep in mind that these are quick photoshops.

Black with gold inserts (I know its yellow, but imagine lol)

    All black

    gunmetal with black inserts

Gold (probably light gold, but still unsure) with black inserts

    Finally, silver with black inserts

yah for sure. im still saying the gunmetal would go best with the paint on the car. black is just too much and the color just blends in with pictures.

The gunmetal color with black insert looks great. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I'd say black but do as you please, it's your car.
Just saw the date posted, ever paint them? What color?
  • I'm in the process of painting them now, I had a few setbacks, but I will post pictures when I get them all finished up.

why not paint them the color YOU want not what other people think?
at the end of the day you are the one driving the car and have to see it everyday

Polish them! (in my humble opinion...)

Use some oven cleaner, spray it on (watch the tires!) and let it sit until it starts bubbling, then pressure wash it of would be best. Couple times of this and all the clear coat is gone and you can hand polish them, it's easy since the have a flat face and no details. I'll find the link I used. It's (IMO) a better alternative to rattle canning them. But it's your car...

cool i like the color. If u lived in WA here in a month or so my buddy and i are getting a soda blaster and setting up to be able to powder coat (along with a tire machine) and we could do them hella nice. Either way i like them makes me miss my grey wagon

Looks really good...fat fives always seemd so bland to me as far as wheels go. They look much better painted imo.
