  • First: did you ground the timing connector before you checked timing? If so alot of people make the mistake of misaligning the cam shaft mark. Double check it or send me
Ur Email address and I'll send u a pic of the timing belt set up with The marks All aligned up.
  • Ok. Here it is.

what fast freddy is saying is you need to set your mechanical timing properly.
  • Any update?
  • i am trying it right now!!
  • my crank pulley isnt lining up with the marks on the timing belt cover.
wrong pulley or timing belt cover.
  • the crank pulley isnt lining up with the tiimng belt cover? idk. what could be wrong i put the crank pulley on and put the bolt in and it wont line up maybe wrong timing cover or pulley? its a big head ache...

you need to take the timing belt off the cam.

    loosen the tensioner

line the crank pulley up (or better yet, remove it and use the TDC mark on the oil pump and crank timing belt cog) to TDC

    turn the cam to TDC

    slide the belt on

tension the belt according to the factory service manual (aka rotate the cam three teeth) and tighten the tensioner bolt.

turn it over to make sure ur in time.

    its really that easy.
  • Ignore the cover. If u use the marks in the figure I posted it won't matter if the cover u have is wrong.

sorry fast freddy but you are wrong.

to set the cam to TDC on an 89-95 D16 you need to use the 7 o'clock mark on the inner timing cover on the head.

just look at the picture you posted, for Si's (D16A6's which is what an RT wagon has) you need to line up the mark on the cover with the cam gear.
  • I am not wrong. Re read his replies " the CRANK pulley isn't lining up with the timing cover" and " the CRANK pulley isnt lining up with the tiimng belt cover. what could be wrong i put the CRANK pulley on and put the bolt in and it wont line up maybe wrong timing cover or pulley?"

he did not say cam pulley isn't lining up with the inner cover. My guess is that he's lining up the cam pulley at the 7 o'clock position, putting on the lower timing cover, reinstalling the CRANK pulley and bolt and seeing that the CRANK pulley isn't lining up with the marks.
  • The key is in the crankshaft, correct?
