RT4WD remote selector switch ideas, pictures needed

So I've been kicking around design ideas in my head for an in the cab switch to engage/disengage the 4wd on an RT. I switched mine to 2wd yesterday and am doing some testing to see if it helps fuel economy (I know everyone says it will). If it does I'd like to be able to more easily switch modes hence the idea for setting up an in the cab switch.

I have some ideas of what I'd like to do but with the engine and transmission in the car it's really hard to see what everything looks like down there. Does anyone have an RT transmission out of a car and could snap a few pictures of that area for me to think on?

Also for anyone who has rebuilt an RT transmission is that selector bolted or somehow riveted or pressed onto the shaft inside the transmission? Mainly can I pull the selector off the transmission without cracking the transmission open and swap it out with a new piece if I determine thats the easiest way to go about this?

As of now I am thinking about just using a cable setup to switch back and forth since I think that would be the easiest to build just trying to figure out the easiest way to make the mounts.

If I do figure something out I'll make sure to post up a write-up on here.

I have an Auto 4wd, and I was thinking about something similar.
It would be nice to have a pull level to engage & dis-engage 4wd.
I know the 1 gen 4wd wagons do..

There was a guy on here awhile back with a 1st gen Civic wagon, 4wd, rear discs, with a homemade 4wd lever on the tunnel. Not sure how to search for that.

It got me thinking, and I think I'll use a PTO cable from an old truck for mine. It's a solid wire push/pull cable with a twistlock feature. You're on the right track, it's a good idea..

    Bam, that's it!

No More Thinking for you Sir!!!

Every time you crack open your thinker, it raises the Wago-bar, just a little higher and makes it even harder for all of us Wago-Slackers...

And, it's hard to keep up with your production rate...

Just to name a few: 1)Wago-Monster-4WDs 2)Wago-Campers 3)2wd/4wd easy Disc Conversions 4)Motor swaps 5)Motor Builds 6)Restorations 7)Roadside Assistance and many more things... ( YOU REALLY ARE THE WAGO-MASTER )

I just got ride of cable TV, so I can be more like you and accomplish more in my garage and maybe actually finish my Wago-4wd & Wago-Camper before the end of summer...

J/k... LOL ;) Your Allowed To Think...

Bam, come up with the plan for this and remember: I want one too!

I work at a truck equipment up fitter so that was one of the options I was thinking of for mine as well...

Another Idea I was thinking about so I could use parts that I happened to have lying in my barn was a set of shimano mountain bike trigger shifters. It doesn't take a whole lot of force to move the selector so I was thinking with a tension spring pulling to one side and the mtb cable setup to pull it to the other side I could rig something up supper cheap and easy and be able to route the shifter to pretty much anywhere since that cable and housing is pretty flexible. And I think it'd be pretty sweet to see the look on my passengers face when I get the car stuck and go shit gotta switch on the 4WD and reach up and hit a click or two on my mtb shifters.

I guess the biggest questions with the MTB shifter idea or anything less than a solid push pull cable is how much force that selector actually see's while driving. If you get stuck and are putting a lot of load through the 4WD system is the selector going to want to slip out of gear or stay where it is if it isn't bolted in place.

I would be interested as well for such a feature for the lil' car
When I will have some time and money available, I will go to a friend of mine who does modifications to 4x4 trucks.
    Maybe some luck there :D
