Need Some Shocks

I drive an 88 civic wagon 2WD with completely stock suspension. I successfully replaced my rear shocks, but my font struts are shot and I haven't been able to find replacements anywhere. Every store i go to the shocks say "except wagon". I do not want to lower the car at all i would actually like a little more clearance. I am wondering what I should get to solve my suspension problems. Thanks.

Monroe are good stock replacements. when buying, buy for the civic hatchback. just keep in mind to stay year specific.
  • My suspension is also stock and it will stay that way since I've used the car to go to the cottage and about half the trip there is on gravel roads. I also plan on installing a hitch come spring and pulling a small trailer for our camping stuff.

Anyhow, I easily found wagon shocks on eBay. Just ask the seller to be sure the shocks will fit your wagon. The shocks I bought are Gabriels and came from Florida. I think I paid about $30 a pair.

front shocks from a HB will work, it's the rears that are wagon specific.

Front CRX,Sdn &HB shx will work.
  • is it possible to get higher shocks/springs? (for the 4x4-look?) Or will this give trouble with the driveshafts? If possible, any suggestions to what springs & shocks to use?

Please do a search. There's several postings that addresses this subject. :? OR read through this section & learn a lot about suspension.
    Basically TEG springs.
  • so i found the shocks that will work for the front of my 88 wagon, but after doing a little research i think that i want to get a slight lift out of my wagon. from my understang this will work for the 88:
88 EF shocks and 90-93 DA coil overs
I am thinking coil overs so that I can lower the rear to exactly where I want it. Is this combination right? And will this lift the front of my wagon at all?

  • i finally got my front Tokico shock replaced today..the top end was sticking out and the shaft was bent..the dude that put them in for me awhile ago forgot to put the god damn washer in there. i should have known better cuz homeboy was on crack.

i had to replace one of the fronts and i'll probably get the other one replaced too. luckily my rears have washers on them!

anyhow, take it from me..it's important to do this shit right the first time.

and thanks to Duckie for helping me get that part number.

actually they work fine. you can get the ones made for the 88-91 hatchback and they will fit.
don't know about raising the car from stock..the wagon is already pretty high at stock levels..everybody here wants to lower it.

i want to get a slight lift out of my wagon.
    Try 4WD springs.They're about 3/4"(19mm) higher.
Use TEG springs for even more lift.
  • sorry to bea noobie but what is TEG?

I installed 90-93 Integra shocks with junker coilovers to raise the car up this last weekend. The coilovers are half way up and the car sits about an inch lower than stock.

Im sure I could raise it up the rest of the way and have a total 4x4 stance, but I prefer lower cars. I just did this for the crazy frost heaved roads that Ive been encountering on the way to the local ski resorts. My passengers were sick of having thier heads hit the roof.
