$%&$*@ Drivers Side CV shaft won't seat fully

So I did a search and couldn't find anything on this.

I'm putting my car back together since I finally got the right trans, and I can't get the drivers side axle to fully seat into that extension that comes off the trans. It goes in about 4/5ths of the way, and then no amount of tapping will get it any further. It's clean, I sprayed some GM superlube on the thing (both axle and the "half shaft") and it won't budge. I can pull it back out easy after a couple taps with a pry bar. Yes, it's the same axle that came out of that side when I took it apart.

Any tricks to getting this thing back in there all the way?

    Does it have a c clamp/snap ring/ring thingy on the end? Some times if this isn't aligned it can bind on the trans. Usually putting some white lithium grease on the end to keep it in place works.
