Idle issues

Ok im having trouble with a friends car. ive searched for a while and have found nothin that seems to help. He has 91 Civic Hatch its got and obd0 to 0bd1 conversion harness running a base p28 ecu on a d16z6. it has a lopey idle up to about 3000rpms. weve changed out the iacv, adjusted the fitv and bled the coolant system of air. the motor was recently rebuild with all new gaskets and i havent been able to find any vacuum leaks anywhere.

could someone please help me out here.

and the motor has an adjustable cam gear and the timing is set at 3 degrees advanced according to the shop that did his rebuild.

Yea ive checked the ignition timing, hes using an aftermarket crank pulley with no timing marks so it didnt do me any good and he is using a z6 vtec distributor and he doesnt have another one to be swapped out

Put a stock pulley on it and time it, then you can swap back to his aftermarket one and it won't affect timing. Also you could order a z6 dist from an autoparts store and if it doesn't fix it return it. Sometimes you gotta spend money to do it right.

we did that and it still didnt fix it. now the car is acting super stupid. itll start and run with the lopey idle and u can drive it, then you stop at a store or somewhere and go to start it again and it cranks and acts like its gonna fire up ut then just dies and wont start at all. wait 15 to 20 then itll start fine.
