Do you have any other pics? Hard to tell where this is located -

It may be a holder for the exhaust pipe? Again - another pic may make it more clear.

    50716-sh9-000 rear Differential damper
$50-80 discontinued unless some dealer has 1 on the shelf.
Your best bet is the junkyard. :(

^^^ what he said about the junkyard, and yours is definatly done. Its supposed to help eleminate the "thud" on say like a really hard shift. There shouldnt be any metal on metal with the damper. It should have rubber around that rodlike dealy. If you do find another you can make it a bit stonger by creativly using some window urethane.

IMO, its not a show stopper. Meaning the car isnt just gonna stop functioning. Its more of a piece so the car doesnt sound like its falling apart. Its abviously been a goner for a while, but if it were me, Id definatly want a better one in there, lol.

Taking this guys idea, you could possibly coat the inner part of the circles, where it is now showing metal, with window sealant, or some other kind of rubber coating to make it last longer.

I did not use that piece when I put together the rear end on my RWD Wagon, and I have no unexpected noises coming from back there. I saw it as an opportunity for weight reduction. I personally would scrap it altogether and not loose one wink of sleep over it. If you really really want to replace it, I'm almost certian I have the one I took off here somewhere, and you can have it for the cost of shipping. I'm pretty sure it's in good to great condition.
