200 miles down 300 miles to go! the idle issue is getting better the more i drive her, i wonder if it was just a ring seating compression issue that was throwing my idle for a loop. oil change tomorrow and i'll run her on another 300 miles and then i'll do an oil change again and put the good stuff in....then i'll take her to the sand and beat the piss outta her haha.
Looking good im looking to take my apart this summer for full rebuild of motor and trans
good luck! let me know if you have any questions about the transmission/transfer case. We have a lot of experience with them now haha!
edit - drained my oil today and it looked epic. no chunks of metal no nothing. excited i am.
Did the new gears you put in the transfer case seem any stronger? I really want an rt wagon, but I'm worried because of the issues I see people havin with the awd drivetrain.

i actually did not use any "new" gears. I picked up some used ones that were in GREAT condition from Jaker. I also pulled a MINT transfer case from a wagon in a pick n pull yard here in portland. I did use new bearings on anything that needed it. I think i posted the name of the company i got them from in my build thread as well as made a specific thread about where i got them in the drivetrain section of the forum...
New gears are not a necessity. I have not ran into anybody else with the same issues jane had. i think it was a bad luck kind of thing. I'll be more than happy to help anyone anyway i can with their transfercase/transmission issues. Jaker helped me in everyway he could and i plan on returning the favor to anybody who needs the help.
Did some good stuffs tonight. First off i got my front sway bar link pins changed out...long over due there.
once i got both sides done i decided i'd dink around with my CRV skid plate i picked up off one a few months back. To be honest i did not have high hopes for it fitting but to my surprise it fits pretty damn well. It will take some minor modification to make it fit how i'd like it to, but all in all im pretty stoked how well it fits.
i know the photo's suck balls, once i get it all bolted in and how i want it, i'll throw it up on the lift at work and get some better photos. The front two bolt holes go right in to were the bumper is held in on the lower cross beam the radiator sits on. The angle is a little off but its not to bad.
The major issue is the bolts for the corners are not long enough to go through the skid plate and hold it down far enough to be able to be functional.
I'm going to see if i cant find some longer bolts and add a spacer piece to the skid plate to get it bolted in exactly how i want it. Once i get it dialed in i'll go pick up a big sheet of 1/8" steel and continue the skid plate across the lower section of the motor....should keep a lot of water/debris out of my engine bay and protect my oilpan/transmission/transfer case.
once i get all the bugs fixed and get it all right, i'll see if i cant fab something up that is one solid piece that way it looks a whole lot better than two pieces bolted together lol.
I'm sure you know this already but the next time you change your oil get it pretty warm, then put it right on the lift and drop the oil before it allows any metal to settle on the bottom of the pan

super quality tip! there are a lot of people who dont know that little trick...i had the guys do it right when i got to work...so it was plenty warm
Haha I debated doing then in vinyl, then I realized they're going to probably get beat up pretty goOf and decide paint would be a better option. I think I'm going to look into buying a sand blaster in case I don't like whatever color I choose

stripping.
stripped.
color choice?
Nice color choice I think it will go well with color of your wagon.
Have you seen the price of gold!?!? You paying for it lol?
All five of them I seriously considered luminous yellow....big time. But idk. Im still searching for options...I need a sand blaster
True story! I flew into San Jose, CA, picked up my soon to be ’88 RT4WD in a neighboring city and drove her home to Long Beach, CA; roughly 375 miles.
Who needs a booth? I do showroom quality paint work in my garage
Well make sure to share the love with some pictures when they're done!! Decided on a color yet??
