My driver's side mirror adjustment knob/handle broke, YAY!

EDIT!: Re-purposing old thread for new topic, old thread subject is below the red line.

*Slams head against steering wheel in frustration.........AGAIN~!*

So I'm adjusting my mirror today only to have the little knobby/pole/handle thing on the inside for adjusting it snap clean in half like nothing. Has anyone here ever had this happen to them? I'm weighing getting one off a junker or from Honda at this point as I really don't want it to break again on me but want to save cash.

So, now that I've had my regulator give up the ghost what can I do to fix it? I've never had manual windows in a car myself as I grew up in the age of power everything standard for the most part; therefore I'm at a loss as to any little things that can be done to get this thing operational again.

As of right now the handle just spins and spins doing nothing, I removed it and tried turning the crank with a a set of pliers but had the same result of nothing.

  • Go to a junk yard and get one out of a wagon on the lot? not sure if any other specific models work for a wagon but yeah.
  • Aww man, it would totally suck if manual regulators were wagon specific. My Chilton's for the 84-95 Civics doesn't mention near anything about the Wagon itself specifically at all but given most of the other parts being interchangeable I'm holding out hope.

Can anyone else chime in with any issues they've had and if the manual rgulator from any other Civic or Honda can be used? I'm trying to keep this as budget friendly as possible.

The window regulator is wagon-specific, but a sedan one can be modified to work in a pinch. It wont' roll all the way down, but better than none.

A TIP b4 you install the regulator :Get a plastic syringe(from West Marine, art supply store,TAP Plastic) & inject Mobil 1 synthetic grease( reddish purple colour) into the crank mech.Remember the used crank hasn't been lubed since day 1.The crank will work better & lasts longer.

Hit up a local junkyard for parts, installed it today and completely forgot to grease the mech before putting it in. 8) I had a hell of a time lubing it after the fact with a mirror and flashlight inside the door to guide my way while I coated everything in lithium grease.

Still makes a slight bit of rubbing/scraping noise too so I'm thinking I missed a spot somewhere that I couldn't reach or see inside the door panel. I wouldn't be able to take pulling the regulator out again unless it once again breaks. It was a complete pain in the ass to get the new one back in while wrestling the glass in the right position, holding it up and keeping it grease free with my other hand.

Also, BUMP! for my re-purposed thread topic.

Crank reg. is probably OK.Just lube all the other pivot points & moving parts on the rest of the unit.Basically anything that looks like it needs grease.
