dont know if anybody has actually posted up a how to but ive seen lots of questions on it, just swapped miine out tonight took bout half hour
tools needed:
1.ratchet
2. 10mm socket
3. 12mm socket
4. flathead screwdriver
5. hand saw
Step one. pop off the plastic covers from the top of the lift support with the flathead
Step two. remove the two 10mm bolts holding the top of the lift on
Step three. saw the crap out of the factory ball joint at the bottom of the lift support, then the 12mm socket will easily slip over the bolt and remove it.
Step four. with the new lift support comes a new bolt with ball joint on it, screw it into the bottom hole then the new lift support just pushes onto the ball joint really easily.
Step five. put the two 10mm bolts back in at the top, compressing the new lift support is damn near impossible (for me anyways) so just push up higher on the tailgate to get the bolt holes to line up.
tighten the two 10mm bolts down to about hand tight and snap your plastics back on and your ready to start on the other side. then you get this:

It sucks that there's no easy way to get the Civic supports out, but great to have a nice guide plus complete part # and pictures to go with it!
need to do this myself soon!
I purchased my set from Rock Auto:
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1807906
$20.79/ea.
They had several to choose from so I went with a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty in case there was fitment issues. It's great to have a hatch that opens all the way. Iol I should have replaced these last year!
Thanks again for the write-up.
Your new lift strut should have come with a new bracket already installed.
