D15 head on EW block

Hey everybody, I'm looking into buying 86 wagovan 5 speed and it needs head work. I have a friend that owns a 90 civic hatch with a d15 with a spun main baring, I was wondering if the head and fi set up from the d15 would bot up to the ew motor and if so how difficult would it be to swap it all over?

Not sure what motor the 86 has. Did you try searching?
  • Sorry about the typo, I was actually referring to the ew engine not the ef. Its the carbed 1.5 that came in the 83-87 civics.
  • No, you can't put 88+ D series heads on the old EW blocks. There is one exception, kind of. The D16A1 head from 86-89 Integras. Go to redpepperracing.com and search for 'hydra'. I don't think it really caught on though, I haven't been an active member there for almost 7 years.
  • Seriously? I was thinking of doing a d16 swap in the future. Would I have to keep the carb setup though if I just swaped heads?
  • I don't know for sure. Carbed manifolds for the ZC's do exist though. You'd have to go to rpr and research.
  • I can't find a straight how to on what the swap would entail. I seen on a few threads that you should use the acura pistons, I'm just trying to see what my options are as far as a replacement head. I want a head that will just bolt on.
