i dunno. cuz i saw other pics of this car along with other corolla wagons. lol. it might be just because the focal point was on the intercooler so te rest of the car is blur. i have to find this.
it sometime help on summer days, since the oil gets to warm and becomes so thin that its not lubricating nomore. i dunno, that the explanation bout it. but from what i see, toyota and nissan are popular on this since they have that kinda look that honda dont.
Im totally with you on the oil cooler and Boso style. I live in El Paso Tx, sun city so it's good for me during most of the year(actually snowed in today). Cool thing about it is that you can do an oil filter relocator kit at the same time. I've been looking at Boso style for a while. Wanna do the cooler, fender flares and some extended tail pipes, nothing too extreme like they do in Japan. Ive seen that civic before, dudes wild with his style. Rusted fenders and fender mirrors. Not my style but gotta give it to him for originality. Anywho...
Another benefit from an oil cooler is increased oil capacity as well as keeping oil temps down. I don't see a hardly modified d16, daily driven in town, seeing much benefit from an oil cooler that has no air travelling through it.
While this looks cool remember where this thing is sitting, on your front bumper exposed to every piece of debris the road can throw at it.

if you want fender flares, got to a local junkshop and get a VW golf or jetta flares. it will fit right up the fenders. i tried it before, kinda looks weird if the wheels aint cambered and stretched, so i ditched the plan.
Unless you have a built motor, and are on a track, an oil intercooler isn't needed. Even on the hottest day in Texas there are hundreds of thousands of cars all from various decades driving around just fine. At that, track cars that do have an oil intercooler just mount it somewhere in the engine bay. This trend is simply for style.

i agree. exposed intercoolers are just for styling. i liked it, since the first time i so a boso datsun 240z.
Generally
Intercooler=Cooler for Boosted setups, cools air down
Oil Cooler=Cools Oil
The Bosozuko style with the Oil Cooler hanging out the front is a throwback to the 70's when Japanese Racecars ran their coolers out the front for better cooling like this:
Obviously you will get optimum cooling as the largest possible surface area of the cooler is exposed, as a by product though slight bump into the car in front=broken oil cooler, oil everywhere, dead engine
These days the Boso cars just do it as they aim to be as ridiculous and illegal as possible. For street use and even track use an Oil cooler isnt really needed in a Honda.
Seen a JDM Type R track car? OEM engine, OEM gearbox, OEM Exhaust Manifold, just aftermarket ECU, Exhaust and intake generally. They race for 20-30laps easy with no over heating

shees i love this celica..... I WANT IT SO BADDD!!!
I don't think I got the spelling right, but you're welcome.
There's a guy from Nebraska that has a wagon decked out in this style. You might be able to find his MR thread.

So purely a style thing:
Yes a 1969/1970 KPGC10 "Hakozuka" Nissan Skyline GT-R
Yea not a fan of those guards (or the owner) either, was purely an example of a Oil Cooler used for Form rather than function
