Throttle position sensor troubles PLEASE HELP

Hey gang,
My 1988 stock civic wagovan is grounded in my driveway for want of a new throttle position sensor. I ordered one from an online retailer that claimed to be a direct swap for my car exactly only when it showed up it was a mirror image of what i actually needed.
just to help further clarify what I am asking for.
I have attached an image of the parts in question
in the image you will see Dorman part number 911-753 which I received
as a "direct replacement" for the part on the right which I pulled off
of my throttle body.
Because the parts are mirror image, the following is not working:

both of these parts rest in the closed or off position by default. My
part rotates clockwise from the 10 to 2 oclock position as viewed
from the inside of the throttle position sensor. Dorman part number
911-753 rotates counter clockwise from the 2 oclock to 10 oclock
position. This if installed on my car. the actuator in my throttle
body will push the rotating part of the TPS into its own stop.

Does Dorman or anyone else manufacture a mirror image part like mine? somebody please help!

  • Does your wagon have a 1.5 or a 1.6 in it? If it's a 1.5, you need the TPS to turn in the opposite direction. I'm afraid I don't know if they're available seperate. You might be able to get away with running it in the opposite direction if you switch the 2 outside wires around on the plug, and mount the TPS 180 degrees out from where it normaly sits, but I haven't given it a lot of thought just yet, and it might not work. How much was the Dorman TPS? Is it cheap enough to experiment with?
