Due to your high mileage I would def recommend replacing the inner tie rods and boots. Does your car have power steering or no?
  • damn man, 500k is some serious milage...you probably want to get under and look at all of your suspension components as well as anything rubber lol. bushings and boots as well.

    Half way to one million!!!!!
  • If those boots have been torn for any great length of time, chances are the rack bar inside the steering rack is all rusted. This will eat the bushings inside the rack that the bar slides in. You should have a good look when you take it apart. If there's any rust, just change the whole steering rack. It'll be cheaper.

If its a manual rack they are retard simple to rebuild as well :)
My EF manual rack had an annoying rattle ended up being the rack bushing and tension adjuster. Bushing was worn and the adjuster was seized
  • ok guys, i fixed it. turnes out it was the right axle. the annoying part was all the boots where perfect. no clue how it was hurt. but anyways. the rack is fine, but thanks for the head start. i replaced the rack with a EF 4door. for some reason its lighter than the wagons.
