autobelts dont work

every time i turn my key to the on position it beeps and my seat belt light blinks and the noise or light dont go off till the car is off. my auto seat belts dont work anymore either. could it be a main relay for the seatbelt?

Could be a couple things, from what I've read so far. Check the two 30amp fuses hanging off the positive terminal of the battery. If those are still good, it could be a few things . . . the quick (but somewhat annoying) fix is to pull the two fuses and manually wind the seatbelts back. The owner's manual describes how to do this, if you've got one kicking around.

Mine don't work either, and I haven't looked into it yet. I know I've got a few door switches that don't work . . . maybe that's all that's wrong. At least one other person on here discovered that the fuseblock on their battery was badly corroded, and so replacing that fixed the problem. If that's not it, maybe try replacing the seatbelt control unit thinger mounted on the floor behind the ashtray. I'm sure they can be grabbed from junkyard cars for relatively cheap.

Also check the plug on the bottom of the driver's and passenger's seats. They must be plugged in for the seatbelts to function properly.

i manually winded it back. fixes the annoying beeping, but they dont move like they used to :( it just stays there all the fuses are good and plugs are plugged in. maybe they just gave out?

That sucks. I just tossed my perfectly working seatbelt drives into the dump about 2 weeks ago.

The motors for the belts are 12v, so testing them should be pretty simple. It sounds pretty unlikely that both motors would have gone up at the same time.
  • i had the same problem... my fuse block was corroded and broken... about a yr and a half later i finally got around to fixing it.

There is a 2 wire connector that plugs into that fuse block on the positive terminal. I clipped that connector off and spliced in an inline 30 amp fuse to each individual wire (making it 2 fuses just like the fuse block) then crimped on 1 connector to the battery end and hooked it up.

Working perfectly, haven't had any issues whatsoever. cost about $8 to do.

    hope this helps

Bump old thread! I have a question relating to the photos one post above..

I've got 2 wires--white with red, and white with green stripe--Are these the lines from the auto belt system that run to the battery (with 30 amp fuses in line)?

Someone please let me know before I go and hook them up to 12V direct.. Might go boom

    Thanks!!
