Making a ZC hump out of Bondo

alright..
so i have been wanting a ZC hump on my hood for the longest time ever, and now i kind of have an excuse to go ahead and do it.

i have a friend with a CRX he import from Germany that has a ZC hood on it. so i have that as a guide, i suppose lol.

i have been trying to do some research on what the best way to do this, anything from casting a mold of my friends hood (though i am afraid that there is a high chance i could mess up his hood. also this is expensive..) to just making it out of Bondo. i like the bondo idea the best so far.

the ZC hump is about 1/2 inch tall. is this too thick of bondo to be applied to my hood? i do not want cracking to start to happen, of course. this is where i was thinking of just welding up a little metal plate to be used as a base for the hump then apply the bondo work over it.

just looking for advice i guess, never worked with this stuff before but i am a fast learner. those with experience, please chime int!!

    1/2 is too thick for filler. Typically you don't want to use large amounts of filler on a hood anyway due to heat from the engine.

    Bondo cant go any more than a 1/16 and pushing it with 1/8.
    You can go more if you are make a mold out of it, if you do thin
    layers at a time. Plus any surface on your car that closes or
    moves you dont want bondo on.

    I agree that an 1/8 would be as far as I would go, especially being on a hood.

    Well what your going to need to do is. This is not the best way because I'm trying to keep it cheap for ya but get yourself some fairly dence foam. Shape it as your hump. Then place it where you would like on your hood then lay scotch or a painters type tape over top of it sticking it to hood and protecting your paint in a big square about 2'x2 just to be safe. Once foam is completely covered as well and hood in that area. Paint on a mold reslease agent. Although not required because tape will peel off but not easily now Lay yourself some fiberglass cloth or chop Matt over area and soak up with resin. Give it a couple layers and use a roller to squeeze out any air bubbles you have.once you have your whole shape covered with a few good layers let dry. Once dry remove it from hood and peel off foam and tape from your female mold. Sand it on inside as needed and use that ad a mold for your zc bump then make your bump with it. I can answer any questions ya have I have to get going cause buddy just got here so sorry but hope that helped a little

    What I was going to suggest, would be to find an ZC hood, then cut out the hump in a rectangle. Cut that exact rectangle into your hood, weld the cut out ZC hood part, and then get to grinding and finishing. It would be difficult to find just a ZC hood laying about, but that would be the best way to pull of it, and make it look OEM.

    I am thinking about doing just this, once I find a decent ZC hood to scavenge. Although the thought of an EE8 or EE9 Vtec hood sounds better.

    Wago if I find a ZC hood over here for cheap you want me to get it for you and ship you the "hump?"

    if your willing to go threw all that trouble i would recomend you just do what i did for the ZC bump i used a ZC carbon fiber hood frint lines up perfect and bring it to a metal shop with a water jet and you just need them to trim edges and the very top closest to windshield or just get an oem metal one and cut it yourself shop charged me $100
