Draft through driver's side vent

Hey guys,
I've noticed while driving, I've got a breeze coming through my driver's side vent. The one that you can move the knob to either let fresh air in or not. I've noticed it doesn't change whether it's open or closed. That is the only place I feel the draft...but being winter, I'm tired of it already. Anyone have any ideas of what's going on here?

Try turning the heat temp to the RED zone & see if the draft warms up?

Yeah it didn't change when I turned the heat way up or not.

    Heat off: draft from outside
Heat on any setting to windshield or feet (not coming out of vents): draft from outside

That lever controls a cable-actuated flap. Is the cable hooked up?

I can hear something move when I move the lever, but I don't know. I guess I need to get under there and check.

You should hear a solid thump as the damper closes- it sounds a lot like the fresh/recirc door does.

    if its cold outside...instantly you
notice the difference with heated air(knob left) or air from the outside (knob right)...
it that's not the case...happy hunting...

it applies to the passenger vent also...
    not dual front middle vents...

    so the draft...
    is something else...
    like Bam says...

    and you'r sure the fanswitch
    equals zero...

This is a good tip to try as a starting point EXCEPT in step leave the fan switch OFF & let the engine warm a bit depend on how cold it's outside. As long as there's warm air entering.:+++SiWagon TIP: QUICK Winter Warming & Defogging

If after that you get a cold draft, then something is broke.

mine does the same thing, i have gone so far as to block it off. has done it the 7 years i've owned the vehicle.

here's a little tip, if you want more airflow to the feet, you can plug the vents under the seats. there are little vents that blow underneath the seats for the rear, i plugged them to get more airflow up front.
  • ^ Good to know.
  • Yes, free snowboots for everybody in the rear !!!

    hahaha

Yea, I read that. I am gonna try and figure what is broken because no mater what you do there is a constant draft......

I had this problem when i first got my RTi.

There is a combination of switches that makes it stop but i have no idea what they are now, too long ago.
  • It's just too much of a PIA to take the dash out (which to get to it, I'm pretty sure you'd have to), so I haven't messed with it. Let us know what you find out, Cole.

It wont be any time soon, but I need to swap some things under the dash anyways so while i'm under there I will take a look. I'll keep you guys posted.

My 56i does the same thing, I just ignore it and aim the air towards the window

But then it drafts on your right hand!
  • Found the problem...at least I think. This is from my parts wagon, while I was removing the manual pedal assembly, I decided to take a look. This vent was in working order and here's what I saw...

This cable probably comes unhooked for some reason and just needs reattached.

    YES!

Holy crap i remember that now. One day i was down there and saw it unhooked and i just put it back on.
  • Well unfortunately I think mine's unhooked on the lever side you move on the dash. I got under there today and it's hooked up to the loop. I just manually closed it underneath, and will leave it closed.
  • so, i guess my request for the pedal assembly helped you figure this out.
glad to be of assistance...
