New wagon in socal

Got my wagon yesterday, she runs great and got me back to Escondido from LA. I bought her for $725 and it came with the yakima rack I was going to buy anyway! Shes an '88 and has 184,113 miles so far. Body doesn't look too bad buts definitely needs a good wash and a wax. Interior needs cleaning but does have its original floor mats. Main problem is the front end. Previous owner said a cab stopped in front of him and he went under it. Fenders and bumper are good, but the hood is a mess. I know where I can get a hood so that's OK, but the front support that goes around the lights and across the front is rather mangled. Is this replaceable, or will I have to reform it into place? There is a wagon at a yard near me that I can get parts off of if its replaceable. My plans are to use this car as a kick azz daily driver because I commute 60 miles everyday. I want to lower it and get some wheels, tint, and maybe a power adder down the road. thinking maybe a supercharger or nitrous. I have a nitrous kit sitting in my garage from the eclipse GSX i had before the evo.

My current car is an evo9. I love it but it doesn't get the mileage I need it to for as often and as far as i drive it. Anyway here are the pics and hope to see some of you guys around!

  • Nice little score there, especially if it's going to be a daily driver. Little work and you could be going places. Can't offer much help on the front end. Hell, with a new hood, maybe it'll line up and you won't even notice, lol. Good luck man!
  • Conratulations on your find! I saw that wagon on craigslist here in L.A. and thought it was a good deal. I was thinking of jumping on it myself but I already have two wagons and an EF hatch. A fourth project was probably not a good idea. Anyway the T-bar section of the front support where the latch is mounted is replaceable by just removing a few bolts. The other portion that surrounds the headlights(radiator support) is also replaceable but requires some drilling and welding when you install the new one. Good luck!
  • any wagon is a good start...

    did you like the auto
    drive...

  • I do enjoy the automatic! The evos gears are so short I feel like I'm rowing the car!
The wagon has a few issues but it should be a fun project. For instance the front left shock is blown, and there is a clack clack clack if i turn left at full lock. sounds like a cv joint. its been pouring rain here so I havent had the chance to get under the car and see what it looks like.

    And that's my wife.

I didn't haggle the guy because he said that like 12 people had called him and he was holding it for me since I was first. The last one I looked at the guy wanted 1100 and it was in way worse shape physically. I feel like I got a deal, so its cool. I'm a pretty good mechanic and I should have it in great running shape soon.

The trim peice is in the trunk. Its just missing the mounting tabs. I'll be in lancaster later today if you want to go to the yards later. My plan is to be out there first thing tommorow and rape that wagon for all the stuff I need.

hey let me know of any other wagons in the junkyard mine are empty they only have like 87 hatches the ones that look like a wagon tailgate but with 2 less doors
  • Score.
Got a new hood, t-bar, front left turn signal, and passanger misrror for $60!
I'm going back tomorrow for more stuff. They let me take all that stuff, but the yard workers were driving the wagon around because it was raining... wierd. they would not let me take the front frameing thing that the headlights mount to, so my question is, can I use that part from another 88-91 civic or crx? Sorry, I would have searched but I didn't know what that part is called. Thanks guys.

The framing thing is called the Core Support or Front Bulkhead in Honda Speak. From what I remember they are a wagon-specific part, but the T-bar is interchangeable between all 88-91 non-SiR Civics.

I saw this on craigslist as well, glad to see it went to someone who knows what's up. :D
  • Thanks guys!
I'll post new pictures of the wagon, and my wife when I get back home.
So today, ii discovered that the problem was not the framingaround the headlights, but the mounting cups the headlights mount into. Allthe adjusteres on both lights were broken. New cups, headlights, shock, weather stripping from both sidesl rear hatch struts, and lots of other bits = $60
    =D

They had the gold 89 I was working on and an 84-87 rtawd.
