Skunk 2 coils

Has anyone had an experience with these. Looking to dump my cut coils and upgrade to somthing affordable.

Just wondering how the ride quality was.

Or if there are any other coils that are better in the genral price range that someone can point me to. Would also be great. My wagon is for daily use and is all stock just cut springs so nothing special.

I am riding on ground controls now but I am gonna try the skunk 2s. I have them already just need 2 put them on. My ground controls ride good until I blew my struts bcuz I ride dumpt. I just bought and recived my st drop forks yesterday and I am in the works of making my own top hats for the rear.
Fyi...the skunk2 coils are thicker than the gc so I am wondering if that is gonna make it ride rough but dunno will see.......

I have the full coilover set on my wagon. I think they are the Pro S series (non adjustable strut). They ride pretty stiff. It's nice in the summer, but in the winter they really stiffen up and aren't as much fun to ride in. I'm looking to upgrade mine to the Pro C series (adjustable strut) so I can soften up the ride in the winter and make it harder in the summer for autox. The Pro S series ones will move to my 90 4Dr Ex that is mainly only driven in good road conditions. They handle really well but are just a bit on the stiff side for daily driver in the winter.

could I run these on my stock shx and not be to high or whatever in the rear.

I was reading one of the threads about what all suspension fits the wagon. And I was getting confused lol it was to much information at one time.

Yes, those would work. But I would highly recommend doing aftermarket struts too. Stock struts aren't built to go low. They'll go out prematurely. Plus it's the struts that make all the difference in handling. If you are just wanting to lower it, then ya you can probably do just the springs. Might want to do civic/crx struts instead of wagon ones though cause they are shorter in height.
  • Yeah. I plan on gettin some skunk 2 struts after I get my coils. And I was going to just go with the civic coil civic strut combo. I didn't really understand the strut with da coil combo with the cutting and what not.

Also planning on getting some new lca's is there a certain year or model specific ? I have a 89 2wd wagon
  • Glad this got brought up cause i got a question to

any pictures of how low skunk 2's will get the wagon?
I'm interested in being 'slammed' and not just 'lowered'

    any info would be great
    thanks guys
  • i was also going to ask...i searched around in members rides trying to find someone with a skunk 2 set up and couldnt find one !

    Try looking through this

    viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4217

Hit "Control F" on your keyboard and type in Skunk in the search box. Should give you some hits on the coils.
  • A quick scan through that link and I noticed alot of people running ground contols. Are they a softer ride or stiffer.

This car is a dd that they will be going on so it's not like handling has to be perfect. Id rather have as much comfort as possible while still being low. Which probably contradicts it's self

    Hey Shakey,

Towards the bottom of this post you will see my wagon with Skunk2 springs and KYB GR-2's with extended top hats.

Since that pic I cut a few coils in the rear so it is more level.

The ride was great, but the shocks are totally worn out...the right rear is even leaking. So def recommend a "sport shock" as opposed to an OEM if you want to have the shocks last. I'm looking at Koni STR.T, Skunk2 Sports, and Koni Yellows (of course, if I can afford it!)

    cheers,

Skunk 2 coils, stock shocks, when previous owner had it:

Since then, I had it raised a bit for daily duties.
Definitely do not recommend stock shocks. It's almost dangerous when I hit a bump on the highway. The car goes up in the air. Spend the money and get aftermarket shocks with it.

from looking at the pro s coils i thought they were adjustable. so now after reading your post im assuming there not. ud figure for almost about $725 theyed be adjustable.

    any thoughts would help.

    thanks

I've got a set of Skunk2 springs...I just need to get some KYB GR2 shocks and I should be all set. Anyone else running that setup could post pics?

I just put the Skunk2 sleeves and springs on my RT. It looks good and handles well. For the most part it's a nice ride, but I think it's too bouncy over bumps. I am gonna look around and see if I can get different set of springs that will work with the sleeves. Maybe a longer spring; but not as long as the stocks...

I've got skunk2 adjustable coilovers on my car and EF performance struts instead of EE and the ride quality is good but bouncier in the back then you'd think. The ride stance is good but you can slam the front to the ground but the back will tuck 15s good and that's what I was looking for so I raised the front back up. There are pictures in my timeline of what it looks like. But if your putting it on the stock EE struts then you have to raise the coilover all the way up or it'll be sitting on the top of the strut and will stay bottomed out so it puts a lot of stress on the chassis but it'll be slammed all the way to the ground and you will need front and rear ef camber kits if any question just ask I went through the same thing. But it was def

Worth it for the price and I used 88-00 skunk2 adjustable coilovers
