heater

when i bought my 90 wago the previous owner decided for whatever reason to completely take out heater. like there is nothing there for it such as heater box, controls, and the ports for the water to enter/exit. my question is how hard would it be to put heater back in the car?

you need the dash out to do it

try and find a scrapped wagon and swop the dashes

i found one...brown. my interior is blue. when you say swap dashes you mean the entire dash? or just everything from one dash to the other? my wagon 1990 does it matter what year parts i get?

dashes are all the same for Wagon's, early or late spec, its just the speedo dials and wiring/plugs which are different, but thats not attached to it so dont worry.

you could get the other dash out then swop parts onto your dash, or just fit the whole dash. as it will have all the heater controls, wires etc

i looked behind my heater/ac controls...no harness at all :? so i would have to get another harness also?

Just swap parts.DON"T do a whole dash swap. It's too much work.Wgn's also have so vents that go under the carpet to the rear.

 This probably would complicate things too much.Might look at putting in a CRX heater/AC controls. They're cooler looking & more electro/mech vs. wgn's mech.Peeps have done it b4.

im just gonna get another wagon dash and swap everything over. simple plug and play I HOPE. but the only thing im worried about is when i get the new harness its gonna be a DPFI harness and im gonna have to convert it. i know a junkyard has a RT wago should i just pull the harness off that? will it plug and play and work fine?
  • I have removed the entire heater box assembly on my wagon for the sake of reducing weight, only to realize that It gets too damn cold in the winter to not have a heater. I ended up having to get another one from a junkyard off another wagon. If you have no heater parts at all on your car you will need to get the complete heater case, a/c control panel, blower motor complete w/housing, heater valve and heater hoses. Make sure you leave the cables attached to the a/c control panel because it will make the install into your car much easier. There is a small wiring harness that is attached to the heater case and blower motor. I believe that harness has a seperation point from the main harness and you can simply unplug it and take it w/the heater box. No need to get the whole under dash harness. Be very careful when when removing the heater hoses from the heater core at the firewall behind the intake manifold. The heater core is made of a very soft metal and is easily deformed/broken if you squeeze too hard when removing the hoses. If you are not going to run a/c then you don't have to buy the evaporator and housing. Some EF's did not come with a/c and came equipped w/a large rectangular shaped duct that connects the blower housing to the heater box. look under your dash and make sure that no wiring was cut during the removal of the heater box or you may have to get those connectors from the donor car and use them to repair your wiring. Also check to see if the vent ducts that are attached to the backside of your dash are still there. These are black rectangular "tubing" that directs the air from the heater box to the vents on the dash. I paid about 50 bucks total for all of this stuff. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

no vents, no wiring/harness, nothing :( oh well. i didnt expect it to be easy. thanks a bunch your info helped out a lot!
  • It's actually not very difficult just time consuming. Let me know if you have any other questions.
