what do you prefer? fwd or awd?

i have two stock rides a gray 90 fwd
and a bronze 91 rt

i have some wag parts just drop me a line ,,

debating if i want the crappy 2wd or do i want to convert the rt to 2wd.

i like the shifting of the fwd better its tighter. the rt is tall and sloppy. i will trade anyone my rt for a nice 2wd.. it can be swapped but has to be clean.

  • good for you you have two waggys.

let me just share my thoughts on 2wd and 4wd. first i got an 88rt4wd and love so much. i liked this awd coz during winter its so just the right car for me to think that im from socal and we only get snow up in the mountain. i loved snowboarding and do donnuts on the snow covered parking lots hahahahaha. the thing about awd is that the shift mechanism is cable thats why like you said is sloppy and the gear are short. at 80 mph the rpm is at 4k, so its not ideal on the freeways.

i would also like to get a 2wd in the future. im just so jealous of some our waggy bretheren who have like a fleet of so cool wagons here. 2wd waggys can be upgraded to b-serries with ease compare to 4wd. a b-serries with LS tranny or LS 5th gear is better on the freeways coz of taller gears. the shift mechanism is better coz its rod and you have this direct feel when shifting. the bumpers on this babies are not body color compare to their awd counterparts.

other than i can think of is, i would not compare our usdm wagons to edm or jdm or adm coz they have better options.

    just my 0.02 cents.

I live in Maine. Winter lasts 6 months here, so I definitely prefer AWD. My wagon is my daily driver/poor weather fighter. I love it because it has AWD like an SUV, but the handling and gas mileage of a Civic. It's the best of both worlds. :D

If it was my performance/race car, I'd totally want a FWD, though. All the engine swaps that'll work in other Civics/CRXs will work in a FWD wagon. Then again, if it was a performance/race car, I'd probably go with a Civic hatch or CRX rather than the taller, heavier wagon.

    i like 2wd... i guess it's easyier for b series swaps...
  • I like the 2WD's. Better gas mileage, easy swaps, parts are easy to get. The RT's are great, but almost everything is no longer available and finding nice used cars or good used parts is getting REALLY, REALLY hard to do.

My RTi had probably the smoothest shift i've ever experienced. Clicked into gear no worries, both quickly and slowly.

Might want to check that everything is adjusted correctly and the shifter is in good shape.

Thats weird I love the way the cable shifter feels in our cars.

I prefer the 4wd, I have other cars that have the b series and all that jazz. To me the wagon is all about utility, the 4wd helps it be more utilitarian. Of course I live in snowy colorado and go camping often so it helps.

I'm loving AWD right now. Once I can no longer find parts for my RT4WD, I'll consider upgrading to a CR-V. Of course, I may own a truck/trailer by then and won't have to worry about getting around in the snow.
  • I had an 84 wagovan 4wd that you could turn the 4wd on and off.
Great when you needed it also great to have the 2wd function for mpgs.
    I loved it
