[EE/EY/EF] Adjustable Headlight Wiring

this is along shot, perhaps... BUT im sure there are some wiring genious on this board, and the following episode you are about to read isnt all that crazy. so here goes....

obviously, i have installed EDM adjustable headlights. this works by a small motor that moves the lens inside the headlight housing. the motor is controlled by a switch in the dash.

NOW.

the switch has 2 wires coming from it. on BLACK and one BLUE.

the headlight motor has 3 wires coming from it. BLACK, BLUE, GREEN.

so now the question is, who knows how these would come together?

my thoughts were that the black and blue wires connect directly together, and the green one is either a ground or a power source.

anyone care to share some knowledge?

  • YOU OWE ME BIG TIME WAGO (if you don't fry your electrical system  )

Now how many people do you think have these things huh????

    The green is green/black right?

If it is, mine is running to the fuse box which is 15amps.

    I TAKE NO responsibility

    rage you are my hero.

    nuff said :P
  • Wago can you post up some pics of the EDM headlights? I kinda want to see what they look like, the whole lense adjustment thingy etc. Just for personal curiosity. And what is the purpose of the adjustment?
  • The adjustable headlight is only made for Germany. Most give you 3 levels of adjustment. On my cars there are pictures of people on the sticker and how much adjustment you should give. So if you have people in the back or a load in the back you can adjust the headlights so that they are facing back towards the ground and not in the face of oncoming traffic.

Newer cars here are self leveling.

This adjustment is a REQUIREMENT here in Germany for any car newer than a 1990. Your car will fail inspection if they are not functioning.

  • Ah so it just angles the headlights down. Thats a weird requirement.

Not really. I can't bloody stand not being able to see where i am going because the oncoming cars lights are pointing too high..
  • Why don't we sticky this so that it doesn't get lost. Granted I think Wago and I are the only ones with these lights but just in case.

but some others might want, and eventually get a set. i doubt i will be one but you never know.....

edit: i do think the switch looks hot though....

some ;) more high end ones...

all my relatives' cars in Europe have the manual leveling switch, including every rental car we have ever had lolz  with the excetion of our BMW 318d.. that was auto (go figure)

its pretty fun. when i show the guys down here they start tripping over it hahaha

oh and evol911, there are pics of it under my rides thread :D

  • How much power is behind these motors guys?
I want to do this mod to my twin bulb headlights which have a different method for adjusting the lens.

I have the switch, I wonder if it's just worth getting the OEM bits or just using stepper motors / servos.
  • The motors themselves don't seem to be all that heavy and I am sure that there wouldn't be a whole lot of power behind these small motors to move the bulb up and down..
  • If you come across one and fancy it, I'd be interested to see the internals please :)

how can I get one of these setups?
They are German fitment to all Hondas.
  • If you are serious about getting a set and ready to pay I can get them.
  • does anyone have a picture of what an adjustable headlight motor looks like?

    just an aftermarket relay, weird.

I don't know if that's aftermarket. I picked up some from an EDM hatch in Germany from ragen-jason and they look just like that. hmmm
  • hmm... if thats a fact...
    it's possible to connect
    a dimmer switch...
    independant hi/lo beam too...

    also schematics...
    ?
  • tell me more! they are glass headlights off an ef8!
  • HaydzHaydz Moderator
EF8 did not use glass lights it used plastic ones.
  • well then someone is using false advertisement! looks like i'm not buying those!
  • HaydzHaydz Moderator
The plastic ones are better than the glass ones. :P
  • Those are non-adjustable headlights. The adjustable ones will have a square plastic box as the ones in wagodizzle's pic does. The one in the other pic is only the dual bulb. I would be highly surprised if those were adjustable.

If the EF8 is the SIR CRX then they would be an EE8 here in Germany and they also had adjustable glass headlights.
