yakima/ factory roofrack

So i see on the yakima site that you can get mounts that fit factory crossbars. They don't have the crossbar mounts listed for the civic wagon in there database. The crossbars are 1.5" by .570". Not that awkward of a sizing so i figure one of there crossbar mounts will probably fit like a glove.
So I call yakima. The girl on the phone says they can't look up the mounts by dimension. So I should just go ahead and order the towers and crossbars. Oh, yeah, great idea! I've just got cash flowing out my ass. Why didn't I think of that. The towers and crossbars are really cheap. And it doesn't really matter that I've already got a rack on there.

So anyway. Has anybody figured out which of there crossbar mounts fit the stock wagon roofrack?

are you talking about the USDM dealer installed rack or the EDM/JDM/etc. RAILS?

i went to a yakima dealer asking if a bike attachment thing would fit my USDM rack and they told me to just park out back and he would see if it fits.. if not he mentioned dremeling it but that it would (obviously) void the warranty lol

    yep, usdm.

So what did you all figure out?

strange... when I went to copy a link of what I had found I found these right away. I think they would take care of what I'm looking to do.

i ended up not finding out anything as i never brought my car out back. sorry i should have mentioned that lol.

i know they have products that fit universal racks.. there are a few in the brochure i have. what are you looking to mount?

bikes, prob about 3 if possible.
I'm looking at the raptor bike mounts. You can score them super cheap on ebay. I figure I'll have to mount one backwards.
Thinking I may have to move the factory rack up some to clear the hatch.

Will prob also fab something up to run a fairing. The girl on the phone said theres no way to mount a fairing without the yakima base system. Shit, I can figure out a way to mount a damn barber chair up there if I want :D  .

The "Mighty mounts" will fit your stock crossbars. The problem is that the bars are curved= your bike mounts skew outwards. Get the track-mounted towers and just use the rails on your roof. I bought towers for a Ford Aerostar off ebay for $23 for my wife's car. Get the Yak round bars mounted, then build from that.

Here's aerostar tracks/ towers with round bars.

the wago tracks are identical in shape, just shorter.

do you have a part number for the aerostar "towers". I tried using the fit my vehicle on the yakima site typing in ford aerostar. Once again it wants to sell me the q towers.
And you say the tracks from an aerostar are the same, just longer. Nice! Because I was thinking of moving the honda tracks forward. Of course then I would have some holes to fill.

or you can just get some Aerostar tracks and mount them over the stock holes and add maybe one for the extra length. does that make sense?

I think the ones I bought were N.O.S. earlier style- before the advent of Qtowers. The seller seemed to have a lot of different Yak items. I don't think I still have the box, I'll look.

They're called Control Towers, and you need the Landing Pads to attach to the rails. I don't know how to link it, but I just looked on ebay: $10.50 Search for something like 'control towers set of 4 with landing pad 1'
  • Just swung by the scrapyard not far from my house. They have two aerostars both with racks. Guy said $30 for just the rails (kinda steep). I didn't have a tape measure but i got a rough idea of how long the tracks were by measuring against my arms. They'll run almost the length of the roof..... Nice!

I"m keeping my eyes opened for some control towers on ebay. Landing pads new aren't that pricey but looks like I'll be able to score some of those used pretty cheap too.

I'll be able to sell of the stock rack to help pay for the setup which will be nice!

  • Bam-Bam, Whats the length of your cross bars?
    Thanks

  • Ok, in NZ we dont get the Wind Fairings so am looking at getting one off ebay.

Have just bought some second hand Thule Cross Bars to fit to my OEM rails.

When looking for a fairing, either Yakima or Thule (Im assuming a Yakima one will also fit Thule Bars) I will need to get a 38" one, yes? Or do I need a 42" one?
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
yakima recommended the 38" fairing when i bought mine. 42" seems like it would work too but may have slight issues with the radio antenna.

Make sure when buying the fairing it fits the bars for the company you have. My Thule bars are square and I can't remember but another company was round. The clamps for my fairing are actually square so if you buy a Thule fairing it might not work for another company other than Thule or vice versa.

Both cars have 48" bars. The fairing on mine is 44"- the 38" one wouldn't fit with my towers. Pebbles' fairing is 39ish- it was 44, I cut it down and painted it.
  • Why do I get the feeling that it was somebody from here that ran the bases I was trying to win on ebay up to $104 :| .

Sweet, cheers for that, my Thule Crossbars are the square type.
I figure if I import a fairing and it doesnt fit, then I have access to a metalwork shop at work so can make my own brackets without to much hassle
