ebrake cable replacment

My left side ebrake cable is not tightening up or is stretched out. The right side is not grabbing enough to keep the car from rolling down a hill and i have to leave it in gear with the wheels turned up against the curb.

Is it possible to change just the left side cable or do i have to replace both? how big of a PITA is this job?

wagon roll on, roll on, roll on.... down the hill.

  • You can certainly replace only 1 side at the time. The biggest pain in the arse will be getting the damned thing out of the brake backing plate. The cable housing has these metal fingers that slide through the hole to the inside of the rear drum, and then spread out to retain it. Once you get that back through the backing plate, as long as you can get the car up in the air a decent amount, the rest is butter.
