Problems with rear strut bar fitment...

Anyone here actually ever install an EF rear upper strut bar on their 88-91 Wagon? I just bought a PasswordJDM rear strut bar for mine, and it is most definitely about 2" too long. This is not one of those bars that I can just screw in the ends a bit further. It's a solid 1 piece welded aluminum design. I'm curious if the bar might have been incorrectly labelled, as the package says 88-91 EF Civic.

I would have posted this in the suspension guide thread, but I'm afraid it would not get the views I'm hoping for. That thread says an EF Civic bar would fit.

I picked up a used one from a guy claiming it was for an Ef, all I saw in his garage was a crx though. It was also 2" to long but mine was the treaded ends so i cut an inch off both ends and filed it down. Cant even tell.

Mine did have adjustable ends and it was on the lowest setting however i don't think there should be a variance of 2".
  • i had the same issue when i bought an ef rear strut bar. its two inches longer. what i did was i went back to the store and bought one for mazda since its two inches shorter. it cost me another ten bucks just for the rods. my rear strutbar setup ended 30 bucks totaled.

x2...made it perfect. barely any threads showing. almost looks like a one piece.

Ya. I don't have that option. My only option (if I really want to keep this strut bar) is to cut and weld. That's the route I'm taking. I'll shoot pics when it's done.

I have a PWJDM rear brace too - in my EF hatch - i'll try it out later and see if it fits the Wagon

    EDIT:
    yep, around 2" too long

When I bought mine (tenzo), it was long as well. I just removed the jamb nuts from each end and threaded in the adjusters and it fits perfectly. Thats not an option for you though :(

Marc, any chance you could measure the distance between the centre of the shocks on both the Wagon and the Hatch?

I run a DC/EG rear strut brace in my Shuttle, it has adjustable ends but I had to tap out the thread a bit more so I could wind in one end piece. Also slightly ovaled the holes in the end links
