Door Detent Rod

Hi all

My 88 FWD Wagon's driver's side front door had a loose or broken detent rod. That is; the mount that is inside the body is broken, or loose.

Does anyone know of a way to fix this, without welding the outside of the piece in place?

I guess i could cut out the piece, and then weld it back in after fixing the stuff behind it, however i could not find any other way to get to this piece.

If there is a good post that already covers this that you know about, please LMK

thanks in advance

edit: added a picture from the manual of the part i'm talking about

  • all 88-91 civics and crx's have this as a common issue. It can be welded, but get a new check strap first, because the sticky check strap is why it breaks free in the first place.

So the best way to deal with this is to weld in the mount (the body side part) ?

Been searching for days and haven't come up with even 1 thread dealing with this issue :(

mine broke right off, had to weld it back on, didn't bother replacing any parts. it's been 4 years.

Did you just weld it back onto the sheet metal? mine moves around, side to side, the brace inside the uni-body is broken or something. i was thinking about just cleaning the area, and welding the bracket to the sheet metal so it doesn't move side to side....

    Thanks for sharing your experience.
