top hat supplys?

ive got a real easy question. Ive got the top hat mod on my rt, and yesterday i bought the girlfriend a fwd 91 and want to slam it down as well. One problem, I cant find any pipe with a an i.d that will fit over the strut and an o.d that will fit inside the strut towers. What have you used and has any one modded the tower it self yet? Any pics are welcome the more info the better. Thanks guys.

Exhaust tubing. I don't remember the exact size. Off the shelf at most of the bigger auto parts stores.

Good question. I have found that 1 7/8" piping to be optimal since it will fit both inner and outer requirements, but is hard to come by. I had the same trouble looking for the correct piping, until I brought my project to a local muffler shop and ended up using 1 3/4". A little smaller, but have had NO problems. I would assume most shops, like my local one, would do the welding too for a nominal fee ($30 for two).

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

well i gave up and just made what i could find work. I used a 2.3/8 o.d. and just hand lathed it down to a 2" o.d.
The hole in the strut tower is 1. 15/16 width so i had to do a bit of trimming on the tower to get them to slide in snugly.
I just wasnt comfortable with exhaust tubing, the wall thickness seems a bit thin. with a 1.7/8 i.d. and a 2'' o.d made out of D.O.M. tubing( big fatty roll cage style) my mind was at ease. welded them up and hope to install today.
Now that ive got it down to a science, im thinking of trying to make them out of stainless!

this seems stupid but somewhat logical , mind you i dont have a shock in front of me your talking about extending your top hat , correct? what if you ran a fat bump stop , no little bushing holding part on the bottom part of the tophat and ran more bushings on top in theory this would give you extended shock travel any body think this is logical?
