tint removal

just wondering if you guys know something good to remove tints...i did a search and didnt really find anything ...especially back window i dont wanna mess up the defroster....any advice and tips are appreciated...thanks

    Use an old hair dryer or heat gun. Kind of like pulling old stickers. Thats all I can think of. Find a corner and pull it off slowly.

    I'm thinking about doing this myself, as my wagon has that cheapo '90s purple tint on it, and I want to ditch it in favor of a lighter bronze tint. Unfortunately for me, someone's tried peeling it off before, so one window is about half-stripped, and the edges of every other window are peeling, it's all so brittle that it just breaks off in chunks too.

    Guess I'll just let a tint shop deal with it, haha. :mrgreen:

    All that, and some Goo Gone to remove any leftover adhesive residue. A razor blade works well, too, but be VERY careful on the back window - you could destroy your rear defogger if you scrape the elements off.

    thanks for the info....hopefully i dont ruin the rear defrosters :shock: that would suck

    it's a pain in the where the sun dont shine ...

    otherwise you can plan over several stages
    and or days, weeks, whatever it takes ..

    This is why you should never use ammonia based window cleaner if you have tinted windows.

    Use undiluted household ammonia, which is ~5% by weight. Not that you could get your hands on it, but using pure ammonia would be bad...very bad.

    x2 on the Goo Gone, but use a plastic scrapper and old piece of cloth that has some texture to it (not a tee shirt). Let the Goo Gone soak in there for the rear window and use the cloth to take off the glue. You could use the plastic scrapper, but be careful when going over the defrost lines ... good luck

    windex, dissolved the anti-scratch coating on my windows but did not damage the tint itself

    I used brake cleanner, It worked good

    Yeah the razorblade works well, but i didnt even want to mess with the rear window for that same reason.

    i just scaped it all off with a painters knife and a heat gun, then re-soldered the plugs for the defroster and it worked. :D my luck

    I used mr scrubs foamings bath room cleaner it work for me......that shit cleans anything...lol
