F20C In theory ??

OK I was wondering what the specs like dry weight, power output, and size,(length, height, width ect) on the F20 with the transmission attached.

Now does anyone know the dimensions of the wagons engine bay?

Do you see where im going with this?

  • I think it would work with a relocated radiator and a transmission tunnel welded in. Also you have to find something to do with the subframe and the steering rack because those basically run along the bottom of the firewall. Oh and some sort of frame to mount the side motor mounts to. I don't know how structurely sound having mounts extended all the way to the fenderwells would be, would probably allow quite a bit of torsion.

oh man! let me know if you swap the f20c into your wagon. I was thinking the same thing. I have a full f20c swap but I am going to put it into my AE86. Has crossed my mind though more than once.

here is a good thread to help you out. yet another one of my silly dreams for my wagon.

Well thats why the subjet title is In theory. Being a in collage kind of put ideas and good paying jobs and about everything elce on hold.

Did get the mesurements and see how close of a fit its would be?

I do argee with evol911 and that some chassie work will need to be done but i think is verry possible.

You'd have to build a "doghouse" beneath the dash to house the back end of the engine and the bellhousing, but otherwise you should be able to fit the rest of the trans and driveline in the center shaft tunnel. Not sure how you'd work rear suspension [using the wagon's diff would be clutch suicide, too steeply-geared] but I'm sure if you had a good plan and took your time fabricating everything, it could come out pretty snazzy.

it could be done. how big is your wallet?

Doesnt that motor rotate a different way that the stock motors? I was under the impression that all newer Honda motors rotate the same direction as everyone else now.
  • skinnyskinny Senior Wagonist
Does it matter? You will just have to beef up one mount more so then the others. I figure your going to run into problems with the rear end gears if your using the stock pumpkin. Hell if you do use the stock one you will probably tear it apart. Having seen these motors in real life i know they would come almost to the core support! It all depends on how your going to mount it. If you square it in the engine bay the shifter might not be where the stock one is. by the looks of it it would be in the middle of the e-brake. if you put the shifter in the right spot the motor would stick out the front. great for cooling, bad for aerodynamics  I could be wrong, we need to get measurements. every time I go to auto adventure they have one on a pallet with tranny attached. I will have to bust out the old measuring tape.

It will take alot of work to fit it in.. steering box relocation.. tranny tunnel/rear end etc etc.. I looked at doing my '79 wagon.. even had the F22C already for it.. but in the end I decided to stay FWD and go B series..

notice the turbo II front cut in the background..

Yes but the head is still flipped, so really they still run the same way. If that makes sense...

Hondas still 'spin the wrong way'.

I remember reading a few years back about some guys that had a 5 speed tranny made for the b-series so it could be mounted as a RWD. they did it in a integra that they converted. They said the biggest problem they had was to get the motor to spin the other way to work with the tranny.

in the link above the crx f20c the shifter is in the right place and there is plenty of room up front.

From what I have read here the wagon front clip is shorter then it's civic or crx counter parts. I remember a post where someone had to trim a crx hood to fit

compared to my friends Hatchback, my wagon appears to have more space underhood.

akiraboy did that CRX CF hood mod, he trimmed off about an inch lol
  • skinnyskinny Senior Wagonist
Yeah but the hatch doesn't have ps. And depending on the model it may not have ac and mpfi. The hatch doesn't also have a fatty tranny stuffed in there. I think cause were used to seeing options on our cars we forget that other bays may look smaller. Also if you have a b series your over all space will be down when compaired to a d series
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
the DX wagon didnt have PS either, except A/T models. same with the Hatch, it had PS with the A/T models. only the RT came with PS standard.

A/C was a dealer installed option that was available on all models of civic. lol and MPFI (standard on the RT, Si and EX) actually takes up less room then the DPFI height-wise.

are you talking about the 4WD tranny? again, DX wagons had the same tranny as the EX sedan, which is the same size as an 5-speed (and very close in size to the 4-speed STD)

fact = wagon has much more height clearance.
width and length remains to be seen, but its most likely within millimeters within each other.

hmm I think I will have to measure the engine bay then do one at the yard next time I go. Wanna put some money down on it?
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
i'll be working on that friends hatchback tomorrow, so i'll measure too :P
    let the games begin lol
(if i had money i would HAHA)

The bay is taller but i also think its shorter (nose to tail). Not 100% sure.

lots of room in the front.
  • Anybody notice the position of the output on the transmission. I'm sure the CRX is going to need a serious driveline tunnel..... for like 2 feet
  • Yes but if you go read that thread you will see that the owner of that CRX will have no problem making a tunnel. Guy is a sick fabricator.

I was contemplating a swap like that for my Integra. I've got an S13 subframe just sitting around ...
