lowering questions.... making sure I'm understanding

I've read through the lowering sticky a few times. I think I pretty much understand but just need a few things cleared up.

1. if I put stock EF springs on a stock wagon shock, it would lower the car 2" (because of the 2" lower spring perch). But doing this would leave me with too soft of a spring, because the stock EF spring is rated for a lighter car.

2. if I change to a EF rear shock (with the 2" taller spring perch). I want to use the DA springs, with a few dead coils cut off. Is that referring to a stock rear DA spring or an aftermarket DA lowering spring?

3. The front suspension on a wagon is the same as an EF. But does the stickey recommend using DA lowering springs for the front due to the overall vehicle weight? Or do I run EF front lowering springs?

I know everything is layed out in the stickey. Just some of the wording leaves me wondering. I just really wanna make sure before I start hunting for parts/ pieces and spend any cash on something that will not work.
And I'm really glad that somebody else has gone through figuring all this out!!!

i just used EF coilovers. straight up easy and a direct simple bolt in, though i can lower the rear as much as the front. certain people have bought Skunk2 coils and just cut a few coils off and it made the ride better as well.

your best bet is coilovers if you want an even ride height. with EF lowering springs the back end will be lower then the front, and with DA it will be higher haha.

oh, the front end of the wagon isnt that much heavier then a hatchback or sedan. i'd just stick with EF front parts.
  • If you have a 2wd wagon(88-91), and all your doing is DDing it, just stay all EF(shocks & springs) front and back. I don't know of anybody who lowered their wagon with the stock rear set-up.
If you want to auto-X, or bend some corners in the hills, DA coilovers or modded DA springs will work with either EF or DA shocks. The DA's will leave you at stock height or a bit higher, thus the reason for cutting coils on the DA springs. With coilovers you can adjust the height.
Both my wagons are 4wd. One is all EF(Tokico blues & Neuspeed lowering springs) and I used a spacers in the back for the reason Dizzle mentioned about the height difference. The other has Skunk Pro-S coilovers for the DA. And I would have to say unless I'm really pushing the the one with the DA set-up, or have a lot of weight in the back, I can't tell the difference.
So again, if you're lowering your car for looks more than for performance, I would go all EF.

    Question:
    #1:True according to clsmooth.
#2:clsmooth was refering to Stock DA springs.
I believe DA lowering springs can be used, but you try a lower series since the drop may not be as low as you think due to the extra DA weight(e.g.using a Eibach Sportline vs. a Prokit).
#3:I believe clsmooth was refering to DA springs also.

If you haven't already read .Here's a rewrite of clsmooth's thread:
